Real T206 Plank?

1 Attachment(s)
I was offered this T206 Plank but have not yet bought it. I'm almost certain it would have to be fake, but it's one of the best fakes I've seen. Any thoughts?

i would not buy it because it looks fake, bit i am a rookie, so one of the vets will certainly have better advice for you

Fake....
Be well Brian

Definitely fake. The caption (type) is incorrect.

deadballfreaK 02-28-2013 11:34 PM

Fake. Not even a good fake. Just a reprint distressed a bit.

Absolutely a fake. The printing font is the wrong size. The PLANK looks correct, but only the "P" in PHILA and the "A" in AMER should be that size. The other letters (HILA MER) should be capitalized, but they should only be 3/4 of the size of the "P" and "A".

Sorry, I tried to post scan but failed.

gnaz01 03-01-2013 03:42 AM

100% fake

g_vezina_c55 03-01-2013 05:47 AM

Fake

bigwinnerx 03-01-2013 05:56 AM

That's a really bad fake you should spot in seconds. Bad typeface, wrong color font just for starters.

T206Collector 03-01-2013 07:42 AM

Terribly obvious fake. If you think it is at all believable you should stop buying ungraded pre-war cards immediately.

Just out of curiosity, how much was this card supposed to cost?

If you think this Plank is real, there's a Wagner in Ohio for sale.

This is an "unreleased version" just like the cobb-edwards Wagner.

Seriously, run the other way...

You should have thought "one of the worst fakes I've seen"

sportscardpete 03-01-2013 12:34 PM

Are my eyes deceiving me or does it look hand cut? Guys what is the market for reprint scraps?

teetwoohsix 03-01-2013 01:04 PM

Yeah, you may want to pick up a couple of raw T206's and get to know them before venturing into Plank territory :D

Easy fake to spot-I'm also curious as to how much the seller was trying to rob you for.

Sincerely, Clayton

I agree...definitely get familiar with the tell-tale signs of a real 206 vs. a fake one. The only debate you should find yourself in is whether a 206 is altered or not...which still gets past some of the most experienced collectors at times.
