Jimmy Foxx 1934 Goudey real?

3 Attachment(s)
We have a nice Jimmy Foxx 1934 Goudey card that my husband received in the late 1960s to early 1970s. I have done so much digging online, and still I am not sure if it is real. It has been in a hard plastic case for most of the time we have had it. I know I would need to get it graded, but I want to know if there is anything about it that would for sure make it a fake or reprint. I wasn't able to find any info on reprints at that time and he was told it was real when he got it. I am most curious about the look of the ink on the front magnified. What does anyone think? I appreciate any advice you have. Thanks.

Definite fake, no doubt.

I agree that this appears to be a fake. But were fakes of Goudey's being made in the late 1960s - early '70s??? Something fishy here...

Thanks everyone! I thought the same thing. He won it in a foot race when he was really young, so at least we didn't spend any money on it.

Ken,

Yes, there were Goudey reprints made in the mid-1970's and the Foxx card in question is from the first of those series. There were three diff. series of 32 cards with the first series being on glossy, thin card stock. Going from memory here - they first came out around 1975 I believe. At first they did not say "Reprint" but at some point they were stamped on the back "REPRINT". The second and third series were on thicker card stock with no gloss and have no stamp. I rememebr these well because they were the first cards I ever bought via mail-order from Den's Collectors Den in 1977. Still have them. That was over 35 years ago...

Had to reset this because of the "Den's Collector's Den" reference. How do you guys remember this stuff from 30 years ago... Minds like steel traps.
