Postcard-focused website
Some of you have visited, some have not, so I thought I'd mention the website http://www.sportingoregon.com/ . Just as the old Police Gazette magazine was not only about crime, the site is not just about Oregon sports. Clicking "All The Photos" will take you to a photo gallery. Open a gallery, click "show all" at the bottom, and then click on individual images for a better look. You'll find:
(1) 42 different Bregstone baseball postcards - http://www.sportingoregon.com/p839800559 (2) A near set of American League Publishing Co. postcards - http://www.sportingoregon.com/p799838731 (3) A rare full (I think) set of Morley Studios - http://www.sportingoregon.com/p110092844 (4) 1913 Pyle & Allen postcards, inc. Jackson - http://www.sportingoregon.com/p618943251 (5) A selection of unusual baseball postcards - http://www.sportingoregon.com/p581199739 (6) 1911 St. Louis Cardinals train accident-related postcards - http://www.sportingoregon.com/p479278548 (7) 1903-1919 World Series-related postcards: http://www.sportingoregon.com/p902264268 (8) 1910-11 Sporty Postal set - http://www.sportingoregon.com/p840360902 (9) A tough 1949 Sacramento Solons set - http://www.sportingoregon.com/p960625891 (10) Home-made baseball postcards - http://www.sportingoregon.com/p707500056 (11) Rare PCL here - http://www.sportingoregon.com/p82778321 and here http://www.sportingoregon.com/p456549431 and here http://www.sportingoregon.com/p107169825 ...and more. New material is being added regularly, so check back. And, of course, if you have anything that would fit the site to share or sell or trade, please email via the site. Thanks. |
Tremendous! One of the very best baseball related websites I've seen.

Thanks...
Thanks for the nice comments, I really do appreciate it. It's gratifying to know that people enjoy the site. And that's really why I started it: no sense hiding it all away. Leaving aside hall of famers and just thinking about interesting images, these two are among my favorites:
1. http://www.sportingoregon.com/p58119...8008#h402b8008 (note his right sleeve) 2. http://www.sportingoregon.com/p58119...732e#h402b732e (a wonderful composition). I'd love to hear which images you most enjoy. |
Love the Flour ad on Forbes Field, of course the Sockalexis and the Fatty Arbuckle. Well, pretty much all of them but those are a few that jump out.
|
I most enjoy the Bregstone Waddell and Wallace.

The Wikipedia page for Casey Stengel has (if you scroll down) a great and early picture of him wearing sunglasses. Actually, that could be a fun subset to collect...

I'm only 5 minutes into browsing and I thought this one was pretty striking... Real photo postcard with Addie Joss |

You picked a great one, Chuck. I like that image, too. Now, the question I'd love to know the answer to is, who is the unidentified guy?
