Ty Cobb 'red infield' blanket

This one has me scratching my head: B18 Cobb blanket - red infield

"the blanket has retained blazing color, bold printing and exceptional clarity...Overall quality of appearance is EX/MT, with the image, caption and design areas presenting at an even higher level."

Is it possible they accidentally used the wrong image in this lot?

Here's what they are supposed to look like:

Hmmmm.... Everything's faded EXCEPT for the red? My first reaction to the pic was someone got out the red magic marker.

interesting that the reverse looks better than the front, maybe it was mounted and faded due to sunlight?

Bugsy 02-11-2013 02:31 PM

I was just discussing this one with someone and I said that it looks like it badly faded from the sun and someone tried to add the red back.

I agree with the color added as well.

Note that the pennants are faded as well though.

Maybe it was a brown infield version that faded and somebody tried an experiment and thought they could get away with it?

Well, the person who colored it almost stayed inside the lines.

Tough to tell from the scan

The red looks unnatural to me also. I think it looks colored in.

I'm certain that Rob is just joking around and/or the wrong image was used. There's no way that REA could ever auction something like that...unless, of course, the descriptor "blazing" is a reference to the fire that appears to be burning around Cobb.

Edited to add: My mistake. It's Legendary, not REA. Same applies.

Exhibitman 02-11-2013 04:53 PM

REA has nothing to do with it; the item is in Legendary. And it appears to be severely light-damaged.
