Which Conference..................

is which?

The Big Ten currently has twelve teams and

The Big Twelve currently has ten teams.

How could this seeming inconsistency be explained logically to someone who had just learned the English language, but knew nothing about sports?

I think we are doomed. Enjoy your water.

Ah, we are back to the "driving on a parkway and parking on a driveway" school of logic.:D

At least the PAC-12 is right.:)

These are just recognizable names, the numbers are just symbolic.

University of Colorado is in the PAC-12 and Texas A&M is in the SEC.

Yes, but the PAC 12 used to be the PAC 10. The only logical result that our

visiting alien could conclude from the three conferences would be

10=12

Going by that same logic, since SMU is going to be in the Big East, or whatever's left of it.

Texas=East Coast

I miss the Southwest Conference, where everything made sense except Arkansas.

Amen to missing the Southwest Conference! I grew up a huge fan and watching all the teams (saw over 100 games from the sidelines). My dad was an SWC official from 1977-90. Got to see a lot of great teams, great players, and be privy to great stories.....

All this new College Conference posturing and re-alignment makes me crazy! At least Conference USA has the right type of name and is actually a pretty good conference with fairly localized matchups for 2013....

The Big 12 actually has copyrighted the names Big 14 and Big 16 just in case. I think they should consider (with the exception of West Virginia now) the name Big Southwest.

10 does = 12 for large values of 10.

12 = 10 if we round down.

No problem here

Well, the Big East almost had San Diego State and Boise State, till it all fell apart when W Virginia, PItt, Syracuse bolted. It could have been the Big East, West, North, South, and Mid West till that happened.

Notre Dame is in the Atlantic Coast.

And the Big 10 or 12 or 14 or 16 needs to change it's name some time soon.
