Anyone feel like giving advice on vinatge gloves?
1 Attachment(s)
This just popped up on my local auctionzip daily email and although it's very short notice and a hundred mile drive ...... I wouldn't mind owning a vintage glove. Anyone care to share their knowledge on these?? I believe they are being sold as a lot and I would only keep one of them ........ but any help is definitely appreciated. Era? Value?

Steve,
I don't believe the two gloves go back further than the 50s. The catcher's Mitt I remember using when I was a kid in the 50s, so maybe 40s at latest. The one on left for sure, 50s. billyb |
Thank you very much Bill. From the little amount of research I did, I basically thought the same thing. Late 40's through the 50's.
But .... I am no expert. I just think it would be a neat thing to display in my card room. Supposedly they have "vintage bats" at this auction as well but there are no pictures of them. The entire auction is a bunch of old books, and these gloves and those bats are the only sports related items there so maybe I will get lucky and get some neat pieces for cheap. |
Steve,
I also like the look of the old gloves, especially that catchers mitt. I also have an old glove on display. A fifties Mantle model I bought at a garage sale. I had a friend take the glove to Chicago when he was signing at a show. The friend said when it came time for him to sign the glove, he looked at it and took his time deciding what color to use. I'd post a pic, but away on vacation. If you get them, enjoy them. billyb |
the back right looks identical to my pops old glove that i just found. 1950's wilson ball hawk
