Any idea what this is?
Hi,
This stamp went off on eBay Monday. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antique-Vint...vip=true&rt=nc Any idea what issue this is? The seller ID'd it as Kelloggs or Wheaties from the 30s, but it doesn't look like a 30s issue to me. The image is certainly not Johnson; it's the kind of hack job that showed up on so many strip cards. Thanks, Bill |
No clue, never seen one before.

Yes, actually. It is from a series of transfers. The curled up bottom has his name in reverse printed on it. Lick and stick, like the toy tattoos we used to get when we were kids. They are from the 1920s. I have several that were 'transferred' to the backs of Exhibit cards. They were likely from Germany from the same mfg that made this sheet:

Hoping it is either different or at least an upgrade to the Cy Williams for me...Though what Adam posted appears to be different stamps they could be a different series from the same set...And the Tris Speaker here looks similar but doesn't have the name at top....maybe variations?

Why did I think Leon bought this item?.:D

The Cy Williams is from the same series. I also know of Waite Hoyt and Rabbit Maranville.

I can't believe I actually found this scan in my files, but here are four more of them as they appear after transfer:

Very well done Adam

Thanks Adam. I appreciate it. When I picked up the Cy Williams I never knew what it was. Still not sure I do, but it's cool to see some more of these.

Leon,
If you want to part with the Williams when you are through...I might be interested. Joshua |
