Typical Ebay Fees on a low cost card.
I recently sold a card through Ebay and wanted to keep track of all fees and costs involved with selling the card. Here are the details:
I sold the card for $77.11 plus $5.00 for S/H. Total: $82.11 EBAY Bold Listing: $2.00 Gallery Plus: $.35 Final Value: $6.94 Final Value on shipping: $.45 PayPal Final Fee: $2.68 S/H Post Office: $4.65 Total Fees: $17.07 or just under 21% of sale price In the end, if I wanted to make a 25% profit on this card, I would have had to bought it for less than $52.01. Just a little reality for those of us who not only collect, but also try to turn a profit every once in awhile. |
A couple of those fees you could have sliced. In my opinion, bold is not necessary for any card that will sell for under $500. That saves you $2. Also, it looks like you sent it Priority Mail. First Class is around $2.00 for postage. You can tweak it down a little bit.

Here's another comparison (before the changes in USPS shipping costs):
Card sold for $75 + $3 S/H. Total: $78. Ebay Final Value Fee: $4.75 Final Value Fee on Shipping: $0.12 Top Rated Seller 20% Discount: $0.95 Paypal Final Fee: $2.56 S/H: Post Office: $1.64 (for PSA graded card) Total Fees: $8.12 or ~10.5% of the sale price |
Sell it on the BST and avoid the eBay fees. Pass the Paypal fees on to the buyer and pay only shipping (or heck, pass that on too:D)

Mailing one raw card with no insurance with shipping provided by paypal is $1.64 (3 ounces); a graded card is about4 ounces and costs $1.81 (I think my numbers are correct). I don't insure under $100; just doesn't make financial sense. Even if one in 100 packages was lost I'm still better off without insurance. Anything over $100, I do insure (round down to nearest hundred usually). I think I'm generally between 11 and 12% to sell a card on eBay. I generally opt for BST here first... |
What happened to the listing fees? I thought they started back up in our categories in January...........or did I miss an extension of free listing?
|
It's also kind of hard for me to tell somebody else whether they should or should not Insure an item.........or that they're using too much packing and should keep the weights down also.
I tend to err on the side of caution when I think necessary, because of past experiences. As long as the costs are posted right there in the auction/listing. |

As of yesterday First Class postage rates were raised a little bit. It now costs $1.69 to send a 3oz. package. (One slabbed card in a bubble mailer)
