New to the boards (rookie post)

Hello everyone, would just like to say that I used to collect cards in the late 80s, early 90s and had some really good modern cards for that time period. I also collected Hall of Famers my father told me about like Mantle, Mays, McCovey, Aaron, Clemente, etc etc. Grew up and discovered girls and sold off or gave away all my cards and I didnt get the collecting bug again until the summer of 2012.

I have a limited budget and 3 teenagers at home so while I won't wow you with my modest collection or my meager interests but I will say that I enjoy collecting wax packs/rack packs/cello packs with stars on top and old San Francisco Giants Hall of Famers and star players. I also collect a few star cards of Hall of Famers from the 50/60/70/80 eras as well.
I also have a Youtube account that I post my pack rips on, and try to update my recent card pickups or pack pulls. My account is GiantsDude24 on there as well.

I realize this forum is mostly for pre war cards and such, but I used to view the PSA forums, and after the fiascos that have happened there lately I decided to come over here and enjoy the finer points of collecting instead of hearing about the latest things that make the hobby an unwelcome place for reborn collectors like myself.

Hopefully I can make a few friends/acquaintances and get some insight on the ways the hobby has changed in the past 20 years and see what I was missing all this time!

Sincerely,
Nathan Marleau

Quick prewar card question?

I hope this is ok to ask this in this forum. If not let me know. I was browsing ebay tonight after some inspiration from this board and noticed a 1940 play ball #1 Joe Dimaggio in auction. http://www.ebay.com/itm/251217679824...84.m1438.l2649

Picture is very blurry and not very clear, was wondering if any professionals would give their two cents to let me know if what i am looking at is real or not. Hopefully there is enough info and someone can let me know, I am a complete rookie when it comes to anything pre 1948.

Thanks in advance!:)

I would be nervous with that DiMaggio. Hard to tell from the image.

Even if it's real, the scan is too blury. There might be all kinds of damage not shown, like a crease or scratch on his face. There a re many PB DiMaggios out there, I'd just be patient.

Thanks for the comments. I am on the lookout for a nice prewar card to jumpstart my new tiny niche. Maybe one new card a month. Then I can see where it goes and if I catch the bug, and start having my pre-war set really take off!
