Leaf Paige on eBay - Buyer Beware

This Paige, ending in an hour:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=121055752896

has off center printing that looks an awful lot like this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Satchel-Paig...-/380564395242

And the seller, while clearly aware of grading has chosen not to have his graded and has a clear 'as is' policy. I can't tell for certain it's no good, but looks that way. Buyer beware.

Did you check out who the seller is? LOL It's the Detroit pawn shop that is featured on the "Hardcore Pawn" television show. I know the show is just scripted BS, but it is just a trainwreck of the shop owners getting into arguments and lowballing customers on every episode.

Edit: Seems weird that a pawn shop has as many sports cards for sale as they do. Oh, and they also have a $6,000 Babe Ruth autographed ball for sale -- as is -- for anyone inclined to buy their $6,000 Babe Ruth ball from a pawn shop.

I'll grant you that "Pawn Detroit" probably can't distinguish between an original and a reprint, but what makes you think both cards are from the same origin? They look different to me.

I don't know if they are both the same or not - as I said in the post, the off-registration on both looks to be identical, which is against the odds given the number of printing plates involved, but certainly possible. You're right...maybe I'll bid...

With red coloring on unusually white corners. Sure you will.

Edited to add: That's a tough one though. I'd say 50/50 chance of it being real.

The registration similarities are a very bad sign. In addition to that, the edge wear is EXTREMELY suspicious. The cardstock that has been worn away is usually much darker (sans redish tint) and the way the edges curl up slightly is a sign that it might have been worn down unnaturally.

Not the same card in my opinion. I can't make a decision on real or not though.

Definitely not the same card. Notice spot near page's most on the pawn Detroit card not present on other card.

Looks like someone was willing to risk the 20% restocking fee. Not feeling good about this one.

No one suggested it was the same card. I was contemplating it being from the same batch of reprints.

That very well could be the case. Issue with buying off the Internet site unseen.

Ouch! Have you contacted the seller yet?

Yes...they were great. The card fooled me too....when I saw it in hand, I thought it was real.

I had the same thing happen to me on a 1948 Swell set, but for much less money. The guys I bought from did not stand behind their product and just stiffed me. BBB out of ignorance ruled in their favor. I will say that their auctions have declined swiftly since and it goes to show what will happen when you do dealings like that.
