What is wrong with base BALL collectors!
 

Okay, we've all seen an overwhelming increase in the cost of vintage baseballs, but what the hell possesses someone to pay $2,550.00 for this ball?!? I would price this at $500 Max, no presidential stamping, hole in the cover!

The only good coming out of this is my collection has just quadrupled in worth, what pisses me off is the baseballs I need for my own personal collection and the book are so far out of my range it's unbelievable!

Did someone just get caught trying to nuke bid the auction, but got caught by another nuke bidder? Thoughts?

Crazy! Good to know I should be able to get at least $500 apiece for mine with ALL the stampings rubbed off though :D

I tried to backtrack and find the listing to look at the bidding, but couldn't find it based only on the picture...?

A couple of days ago there was a thread about a particular buyer snapping up most of the recent high priced vintage balls on Ebay. Looks like that guy bid $2500 on this ball and still came in second. These guys are crazy.

Thank you for that. Ebay has been mucking around with their search engine, and it's really ticking me off. I searched in completed listings for "Official National League Baseball" and found a new-condition ball that went for $2500, but this one didn't turn up. Just now, I searched for the exact title, and got 0 matches in completed. Makes me wonder what else I've missed out on in active listings!

Not to mention a box that once housed a 1930's Harridge baseball which sold last month in a MEARS auction for over $700.00 for the cardboard alone!

The bids after those two fall from $595 downward, so I wouldn't be jumping up and down with joy (yet) thinking the value of this item in my collection just soared over 300%. The mass-market value of this item appears to be much less than $2200. My applause to you BrandonG, as your assessed value is spot on.

All I can say is SELL NOW, before this guy is done buying. Actually like someone said its a new buyer who beat tgos4995 for this one, and that's intriguing, hopefully feedback will be left so we can see who this is. They only bid on 1 item, this one, in the last 30 days so that's a little odd, whereas tgos4995 is bidding and winning daily everything in sight.

My guess is that your book is causing this craziness. ;)

That's a beautiful ball, but not the same as the eBay ball. Yours is 1919-1924. It would probably only sell for $2,549.00 lol :D

Looks like the big buyer of vintage baseballs has moved on to autographed baseballs, so the value of everyone old balls just plumetted.

The most recent sale was a Johnson ball. The earlier one was a Barnard ball. I think that helps explain the price difference.

Why would Barnard be more expensive then the Johnson, the Barnard Balls were out for 5 years 1927-1931, whereas that design of the Johnson ball was only 2-3 years I believe, 1925-1927.

Could it be a connection to a Forger? With the vintage balls comign out forger if someone is getting 10k for a ball, paying extra doesnt matter

I thought Barnard balls were considered to be quite rare, and thus sold for a premium?
