new member from Indiana

Hello,
I just recently joined the board. I'm on 2 other boards (blowout and fcb) but i'm not as active on there because I don't prospect collect too much and that seems to be what those are focused on. I'm more into my PC and occasional box breaks with my brother and nephew. I am just now getting into vintage. I collected when I was a kid and picked it back up on the modern side for the last few years. I'm 24 so unfortunately I did not get to see the vintage guys play but I have a deep appreciation for baseball and would like to show that through my collection. I believe I'm going to start out my vintage collection by doing hof/stars of the 1955 topps set all in at least PSA 5. With my budget psa 5 seems to be the right grade for me to collect. Obviously by my username you can tell i'm a braves fan so I'm hoping my first pickup will be Hank Aaron. There's a card show in the town I work in this weekend with a few vintage dealers so I'm excited to see what they may have.

I have learned a lot just from looking around on this board and am looking forward to getting to ask some questions and hearing what seems to be pretty sound and honest answers from the members here!

For any members from Indiana the card show I referenced is in Kokomo,IN at the markland mall Jan 18th-20th. There are 3 or 4 vintage dealers usually and then 3 or 4 modern dealers.

Thanks for having me and happy collecting to all!

-Adam

Thank you! I liked the looks of 54 and 55, I settled on 55 because I realized I really wanted a Hank Aaron card from one of those sets and his RC in decent condition is just not in the budget. Maybe someday though!

Welcome to the forum Adam. Make sure you tool around the site a little bit by clicking on the icons on each page. Also, make sure you don't miss the "community" tab in the darker blue line. Lots of great collections can be seen there and you can also put cards there if you wish to.

welcome aboard!!!
although i type collect from 1900-39, i have been a fan of hank aaron for many years now. I taught his daughter in the early 80s and was lucky to receive
a baseball and photograph signed by him re: his surpassing the babe's lifetime
homerun record.
glad to have you with us!
all the best,
barry

Pretty jealous of that. I played high school baseball against current braves pitcher Brandon Beachy and with him being a hometown guy hes one of my modern PC guys. He was nice enough to autograph a jersey for me when I seen them in chicago and I've got some signed baseballs from Chipper and Kimbrel and some other current braves but definitely haven't been lucky enough to meet or get anything signed by Hank.

Thanks Lee! If you have any spare time this weekend you should drive over and check out the card show at the mall.

Trust me I love looking at them. I think the Ty Cobb bat off shoulder is one of the most beautiful cards Ive ever seen, love the detail such as his typical bat grip and the colors in the background. I also really like the Christy Mathewson t206 piedmont dark cap. Again the detail in his face and the way his hair hangs out of his cap, which Im sure is a look he was known for, the way thats captured is something I can really appreciate. Just don't see that in my budgets near future haha. I was considering maybe honoring being from Indiana by getting a few Indianapolis T206 cards sometime.

Adam,

Do they have any pre-WW2 cards? If so, are they decently priced? I collect t206, t212, n172, and PCL issues....just wondering if any of this stuff ever pops up. Anyway, if you ever want to talk cards, I am nearby!

Lee,
Ive been going to these shows for the past couple years but to be honest I havent paid real close attention to what all the vintage dealers have, seeing as though I have always been going for modern cards and boxes, however this time around I will be able to give you a better report on what they have. I know they have 50's and 60's on up but I cant say for sure if they have pre-ww2.

I frequent the FCB boards but enjoy these boards because the maturity level is so much higher here (usually :) ) I have been to blowout and find I need a hot shower after reading some of those posts.

You will like it here. Welcome.
