Different SMR price for T206 Dahlen (boston) vs. other commons

This seems remarkable to me. I know most of us don't buy into PSA SMR prices, but they are now posting this card with higher values than all other commons. I have never found this version of Dahlen to be that difficult and that pricey. What's extremely confusing is how many other commons are significantly tougher than this one, sell for alot more money that this one, but have prices like all other commons. This makes no sense at all to me....

wazoo 01-16-2013 02:06 PM

I totally agree. If they are going to do this, then they should at least change the prices of the other tougher commons. Dahlen is not impossible to find, there are some nice examples for affordable prices. What about commons like Tenney, Ganley, Beaumont, Titus, etc? If they are going to do this, then they should at least change the prices of the Joe Doyle (common) as well! No way are you going to find a Doyle in a 4 for close to $85.

Other toughies are Powers, Reulbach (glove shows), Schulte (front view), Magee (port)....try buying those for SMR price!

No doubt Mr. Mize. The Reulbach and the Magee go for a lot now! SMR needs some fixing!

Kevin- most likely a typo, they probably meant Dahlen, BK, no?

No, not at all. The Dahlen brooklyn has had extremely high values posted for some time now.....

wazoo 01-16-2013 05:00 PM

Yeah, and the prices would have been much different because the Brooklyn variation brings in a much larger price.

Could it be that Bill Dahlen just missed being voted into the Hall of Fame by 2 votes in December by the Pre-Integration Era Committee. He will probably be a Hall of Famer when they vote again in 2015. Another HOF from the T206 set, not a common anymore.

Mike- that's a very good point, but I have heard the same thing about Ed Reulbach with no increase in SMR. Having said that, both should be in the Hall....

I have always known the Dahlen Boston to be more than a regular common. Not a crazy amount more, but certainly carries a premium. VCP Avg. on an SGC 40 is $59.27 and the last 50 (a solid one) sold in 2011 for $125. No chance is that card equal to a Rube Kroh or Billy Nattress. SMR is garbage anyhow.

Best,

Andy

ok, gotcha Kev...i haven't read an SMR since 1999, so wouldn't know.

baker85 01-17-2013 08:20 AM

why is the smr report garbage? just curious as I am new.

wazoo 01-17-2013 08:38 AM

SMR isn't an awful reference, but some of their prices really need to be adjusted.

This is my first time posting, but I have been lurking the board for a while now. I know it is easy to find SMR prices that are totally out of whack. But one of the worst SMR listings to me is always the 1915 Grover Cleveland Alexander Cracker Jack.

SMR values that card in PSA1 at $65, PSA2 at $110 and PSA3 at $175. That Grover Alexander card always just stands out to me as wildly inaccurate pricing because I am a Phillies fan and Grover Cleveland Alexander is one of the players whose cards I always follow.

Anybody know why the t206 Lundgren - Chicago goes so highly over the Kansas City ? The Chicago and KC populations are nearly identical, yet the cost is generally >5x for Chicago. I'm not aware of any premium back on the Chicago version.

I used to own an El Principe De Gales one for the Kansas variation. They definitely demand a premium.
