Honus Wagner T206 Piedmont Back
Looks like technology has finally settled the debate over the (John Cobb / Ray Edwards) Honus Wagner T206 Piedmont back card once and for all...
http://www.cnbc.com/id/100359505 A CT scanner is a must have for every serious collector of vintage cards. |
F-F-F-Finally...these bozos will go away!!!!!!!!!! I hope!!!!:)
|
Edwards said it would really hurt if he discovered the card was a fake....was he hurt when dozens of card experts on this board told him it was no good?
|
apparently not Barry...it took a ridiculously expensive x-ray used to diagnose pathology on humans to convince him!
Makes for quality television though! |
Wait so the card they own isn't real? :)
Love how he brought the big dollar card into the building in a brown paper bag. I guess a briefcase with a lock would be too much to ask for….then again the briefcase is worth more. |

It was kind of funny seeing how amazed the guy was when he heard about the thickness of the card.

Sadly that is most likely true he got paid some cash...these bozos will ride this train as long as they can... |
That was interesting, thanks for posting it.
I suppose the card now has value since its been on a tv show and is famous in its own right. |
Sadly, I doubt it'll end with this show. They'll somehow come up with claims that the show was rigged, the scan wasn't accurate, the CT scanner wasn't properly configured to scan a flat object, other cards are thinner in the middle, and God only knows.
I bet they'll sue the grading company and/or the scanning center and/or the TV show for damages. Interesting that it appeared only one of the owners were present for the scan. Perhaps the other one didn't want to face reality or be caught on camera having to admit he's been wrong. |
The 'Treasure Detectives' are racist! The card is real.

Had to be skeptical when a green Cobb port begins the video.
And what's wrong with a brown paper bag? Peter Chao used to carry his stuff in his pocket. |
i wonder - where he got it from - who graded it - and what he payed for it

I meet this guy at the Montreal Card show. I asked a couple question about his authentification. He said that the card is period correct(1910) with all the test made by these two guy and all her expert... he dont said the card is a real ' Regular ' Wagner... perhaps a pre-print ..... a test card etc etc etc. So it was a funny conversation with this guy :) The more funny thing is : 2 week before the Montreal show i write an E-mail to a guy i know for long time who work now for ACA grading, and i sent to this guy a pic of that Wagner ( ungraded ) and i ask to him for his opinion. his answer is immediatly : This card is a Fake. Immediatly after that i send to this same guy the picture of the Wagner graded by the company where this guy work.... His answer was : OK you will speak with the owner of ACA at next MTL show to ask your question..... LOL |
The brown paper bag was to put over his head and to breath into after he received the good news.
|
"Now we can't take it out of the case......." :D:D No, wouldn't want to do that after all of the trouble it took to find someone to put it in a case :D:p
Sincerely, Clayton |
Well, these guys figured out a way to make some money off this thing. Good for them. They may finally admit to what they've been told all along, but they've probably made at least what a "real" low-grade copy of the card could've sold for off of it..
Personally, I think it would be kinda cool to have THAT card. Just for the story behind it. Although, I wouldn't be willing to pay much for it.. THIS card may be one of the most famous individual cards in the hobby(albeit for legitimately negative reasons).. |
Has anyone authenticated the bag?
