High Priced Memorabilia
Do you guys think the market for high price baseball memorabilia has gone up lately. Like in the mears auction last night they sold a rookie ruth bat for $106,000. Couple years ago the same bat sold for $18,000 and $48,000. They also sold a Ruth bat for $400,000, lelands sold the Ruth jersey for 4.4 million, Lou Gehrig bat sold for $200,000 couple weeks ago. So do you think all these items will keep going up?

yes. it's all supply & demand; these items (Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle game used jerseys & bats) are few & far between. buying them, is like investing in high-profile blue-chip Artwork. now there seems to be new money entering the hobby in the way of wealthy investors, and they know where the great ROI is.

It really depends on the item. I don't think it will be easy to make money on the spalding ruth, or the 415k+bp ruth bat or a 200k gehrig bat. There are a few new bat guys that have entered the market lately and they are helping raise prices. If you look back several years ago.. a fair example of ruth, gehrig or cobb would sell for more than it would now. Its a very limited market for people who can drop 50k+ on an item.... and a very very limited market for people who can spend 200k on a bat or jersey.
I would bet if you re auctioned either Ruth bat in the next 2 years you would lose money but I dont think these items aren't being bought by people who really need to worry about them going up in value.. Matt |
