Plank vs. plank
Looking for a little auction education. I saw the plank psa 5 at memory lane sold for $86,000. The Leland's plank psa 5 going for $103,000 so far. In my opinion the memory lane looks better. What am I missing? Normally if two of the same cards go off in auctions does the first sold go for more or less?

There is little rhyme or reason to many of the results of auction bidding, on any card, in any auction. All it takes is two people to produce a big finish. Perphaps someone has to have it right now, or the other really likes it's particular look, or they do or don't participate with one of the auction venues. Or, they have just sold something and have a pocket full of money, or they are having a few too many drinks while bidding. The list goes on and on.

Lelands may have flat out out marketed and out worked Memory Lane...I don't know this in this particular case, but hard work is often the answer to why one person is more successful than another given the same material to work with.

Isn't the Leland's Plank (here: Link) currently at roughly the same price (before BP) as the Memory Lane Plank (here: Link)? Not sure where the 103K is coming from.
Weird thing is, is on the press release on SCD for the Memory Lane auction, it says that the Plank sold for ~107K (here: Link). Not sure if that's just a typo or there was a hidden reserve that was still met by the buyer's max bid. |
why the bid is now down at 71 327 ? earlier today the bid was in the 80 ....

I noticed the same thing. Someone retract a bid?
|
bid retracted
Yes a bid was retracted by a newbie who we believe got cold feet
We immediately took the bid down to where it would have been had he not bid He said he never bid but his ISP came up in our system so he was lying or maybe his golden retriever bid In the future we are going to make people check with us by phone for items over a certain amount say $25k It has not been an issue in the past but things change Josh Evans |
Was it Leon again?:)
|
leon is cool
not Leon
Leon just waits till after the auction is over and doesn't pay The auction is really starting to rock n roll Josh |
Leon = Deadbeat :eek:

High auction bids are solely the product of who is bidding, and not necessarily what you think the card may be worth. And past bids don't always influence current ones. It's about having available cash at a certain point in time.
