New find! Killer general store find!!!
3 Attachment(s)
An old General store closed near the Pittsburgh area. The contents was auctioned by a small auction house on auction zip. Low and behold!
Some killer stuff was available but only 1 sports item. A 1939 Clopay Foto Fun partial box with 30+ unopened packs!!!!!!!! HOW FARGING COOL IS THIS???????? A killer tough issue that is not very popular but is a set I have been working on for about 30 years. A MAJOR find for the HOBBY and the ONLY KNOWN display box! Enjoy the pictures my friends: Dan |
nice find!!
I can't wait for the day something like that happens to me! :D |
Very cool, Dan! Congratulations!
|
Very neat Dan!!!
Can we see pics of the unopened packs? |
Congrats!!
Love that box Dan. Great and very obscure set. Maybe the box will tell us some more about the set? Congrats!! And here is an example of an unopened pack and an opened one, for members to see (not from your find of course).

Thanks for the kind words Leon! I was like a kid in a candy store when I took this home! No pun intended.
|
Leon,
Out of sheer curiosity, why the diversion from your trusty Franklin Half Dollar? I happen to have a Morgan Dollar waitng in the wings, and was considering posting photos with this included with your permission... Best, Eric |
Very cool, dan...congrats!
|
Awesome find! Congrats!

Thanks Guys, and I wish everyone a very Happy and Safe Holiday Season!
|
Very nice Dan - you are on a roll, sir.
|
Couldn't happen to a nicer guy!
|
Wow...that's outstanding. Great find - I've always been fascinated by those (I think I got outsniped by Leon twice on unopened packs, if I recall).

Seriously, Dan, congratrs on a great find! I trust you'll let "Pops" have the fun of opening a few of the packs! Best to you both for the Holidays & for 2013, Val |
Thanks, Val, and the same to you, my friend.
|
Is this the same lot that went unbid ($2,000 minimum) on eBay back around Thanksgiving? I, too, have been working on this set for about 30 years, but I don't collect unopened packs and didn't dare bid for fear I'd be tempted to open them.
|
Congrats Dan. I hope you finish the set. 30 yrs is a stretch to wait. Do you think you will let PSA grade some of these:D.
|
Dan- since that box is unique, as you said, you might consider having a little conservation work done, even if merely to help preserve it. It clearly needs a little help. But great find...and what is it, like two finds in one week? Can't someone else have a turn?:)
|
Wow! You gotta record and post the pack busting party for us on Youtube.
|
That is awesome!
Congratulations and thank you for sharing!

Thanks everyone, I appreciate all of the kind words and am happy to share the information.
I agree Barry, the box is hurting for sure! dan |
Dan,
Congrats on your find!! Would love to see your treasure trove sometime as it must be awesome. You are inspiration for all us "raw card" guys. John |

Awesome! Congrats, Dan! Makes you wonder what may be lurking in the basements of other general/dime stores that are still operating. I recall an old general store in Kansas a few years back that turned up an unopened Fan Craze set. I believe in that case someone bought a building in a small town and got all of the contents.

That amazing 1930s find that REA auctioned a few years ago was from a store closing I think. Over the years the store just kept putting new product at the front of their very deep shelves and the old stuff got pushed to the back! That is where the Dockman packs were found with the star player cards in them I think. There was some killer non-sports stuff in that find.
|
Wow Dan!
Thats a nice find! Jantz |
Dan, I'm just curious (because I live in Pittsburgh!). Whereabouts was the store located? And congratulations again!
