If you could have one card.......

Hello All:)

I'm sure this has been covered before, but if you could have/ trade your whole collection for one card, what would it be???

Mine is very clear.....as most of my friends know, I have been "chasing Wagner" as a kid, and maybe that will be the title of my book I write one day......when I first collected in the late 70's, I always read about the "mysterious" t206 wagner....i'm an average Joe in this world, and really became fascinated by this card, and have always wanted to touch one, let alone own one......I took a hiatus from collecting from age 16 about and started again in my mid 20's.....yes I bought all the 70's , 80's and 1990's and shiney bowman chrome rookies ect, but my friend Johnny D got me into the T206 set in the late 90's.....I soon after a few years dropped collecting the new stuff all together and got hooked on t206 freaks early on......as most of net 54 knows I grab a t206 freak/scrap where ever and when ever I can.....Put everything I could into them...now i'm quite older and am coming to the self actualizing part......I ABSOLUTELY love my cards cause most of them are quite unique:D ......point of all this gibber gabber...:o....altho my cards are basically my life(pretty sad yet true):o....I have one life goal....MY HOLY GRAIL.....WAGZ.....I would trade my entire collection for one, and hope to some day to the right person.....My card I WANT and I hope the collector is listening:), would be the WAGNER SCRAP WITH GHOST IMAGE on front......I dream about that card....that is my ultimate card to own(I would take a factory cut wagz also:)....But, the Wagner scrap is my ultimate dream and I obsess about it and absolutely LOVE that card.....PHEW:o

what is the card(be specific if you can, condition, rarity, ect.) would you want to own???your ultimate card??something you would consider trading all your cardboad candy for???that one of one item??

Peace

Johnny

A low grade T210 Joe Jackson. Trading all of my cards wouldn't quite cover the cost, unfortunately. :)

mrvster 12-08-2012 11:36 AM

O ya'

Chris.....OMG....theres my holy grail.....

+1 on the Joe Jackson

I think right now if I could have one card it would be nice blue Baltimore News Ruth rookie. My favorites are always changing, but right now that would be my pick. I just love that card and you can't go wrong with a Ruth.

Best,

AndyH

I like having a collection. I wouldn't trade it for a single card, no matter how much I wanted it or how valuable the card would be.

1960 Armor Hot Dog Coin Bud Daly. I've long been of fan of these coins, and this is the coveted rare one.

Duly note that I didn't cheat and pick a card that I could resell and buy a BMW.

z28jd 12-08-2012 12:28 PM

I agree with Brian, I'd rather have a collection as opposed to one thing worth more or equal to the collection. I like looking through cards, not just staring at one

I do want an 1887 Kalamazoo Pittsburgh team card, but there is no way I'd trade everything to get it and some cards I wouldn't trade. It took me forever to get an Old Judge card of Alcott on Mansfield, can't see me parting with a card that was on the top of my realistic wantlist for near a decade.

If the trade presented itself, I might consider it, but the KBats is more like a lottery dream and I don't play the lottery, so I never really think about buying one. I dont know if it would be better than knocking off a card that I looked for everyday for ten years and even missed twice due to unreal prices. Besides, I have a nice scan of the KBats on my computer, that's good enough for me for now.

I am with you Brian. However, if I could only have one card it would be a BN Ruth. At least I wouldn't get too tired of looking at it.

Wite3 12-08-2012 01:02 PM

Duke's Delahanty...beautiful card...(close second it that T205 Hobby no stats)

mrvster 12-08-2012 01:19 PM

keep em coming guys....

Great choices so far:D

Bicem 12-08-2012 01:38 PM

Baltimore News Ruth. Favorite card of the best player ever, simple enough.

glchen 12-08-2012 01:45 PM

Another vote for the Baltimore News Ruth. The T206 Wagner would be next since it's such an iconic card in the hobby.

t206blogcom 12-08-2012 01:56 PM

I'm with Brian and Leon that I don't think I'd get rid of an entire collection for one card. However, to play along, I'd probably go with a high grade T206 Wagner.

Eric72 12-08-2012 04:56 PM

If the Met was willing to trade their Jefferson Burdrick T206 Wagner for my collection, I would do it in a heartbeat. Realisticly, I have much better odds playing Powerball.

:D

Easy choice. Just So Cy Young...

unfortunately I'm one broke SOB, so I guess this reprint will have to do for now, hell, probably forever..

sycks22 12-08-2012 05:35 PM

I'm onboard with many of the other guys with the Baltimore News Ruth. 2nd place = my 1990 Leaf Frank Thomas being worth $80, like when I bought it:)

g_vezina_c55 12-08-2012 05:39 PM

For me another vote for wagner . But look my signature lol the wagner will be a dream all my life...it is not in my range and will nrver be in my range so it will continue to be a dream.

DeanH3 12-08-2012 06:21 PM

I would want a CJ Cobb. Doesn't need to be high grade. Just a nice centered example with nice bold colors. Great thing is I would not need to trade my entire collection. Just most of it.

HOF Auto Rookies 12-08-2012 06:27 PM

Ummm my dream card would be a signed T206 Wags or signed BN Ruth :)

But, on a real note, maybe a Mathewson signed T206 or a Cobb

cdn_collector 12-08-2012 06:42 PM

If I could trade my entire collection for a Voskamp Wagner, then I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Realistically speaking, I'd need to add the value of a Voskamp Wagner's worth of cards to my collection first... ;)

Regards,

Richard.

mrvster 12-08-2012 06:47 PM

wow....

Alot of BN Ruths.....:) great input...

calvindog 12-08-2012 06:52 PM

Boston Garter Cobb. I was the underbidder in a Hunt auction a few years back and am still a bit nauseous about that.

tbob 12-08-2012 06:58 PM

1911 Zeenut Bohen. I've not only never seen one in person but I've never seen a scan of one. Is there a rarer card from a major set?

mrvster 12-08-2012 08:51 PM

Jeff and Bob.......

Jeff i hope that bgc comes your way one day, i'll be rooting:) if i can help i will....

Bob that is i'm sure a true rarity.....hope you get that white whale, i will hunt for you:D

I think we're all hunting now...imagine the collection you could trade that Bohen for? ;)

Regards,

Richard.

Here's a partial scan of one, someone bought it and got a picture of a real one http://www.oldjudge.com/archive/2004...ball/pcl/56/#a

Vegas-guy 12-08-2012 09:38 PM

In early 2001 i had a chance at mine but didn't take it..:( could have traded all my cards and a little cash for a PSA 3 plank and passed! Problem was my collection at the time was worth more than the plank, boy how time have changed!!! I'm still kicking myself today!

Thanks for sharing. Yes that is the famous silhouette Bohen that some collector had cut off from the card by trimming it around the picture and then placing it on a blank card for the background. If I had known back then that it was in Lew's auction I would have been all over it, "card"or no "card.

GregMitch34 12-08-2012 09:59 PM

To be at least slightly realistic, near-mint M116 Sporting Life blue Matty.

TheBig6 12-08-2012 10:46 PM

Horner Cabinet Speaker
or Four Base Hits Kelly
Would I trade my whole collection for either one, probally not... but I would for this.
Sorry about the reflections but it was behind glass at Boston Library,
Has everything you could want Wagner, Cy Young, other hofers, Nuf Ced Mc'Greevy, even a peanut vendor
and its a huge Chickering Cabinet, did I mention huge

Johnny- i'm with ya...T206 Wagner for me (i'll leave the ghost example for you, i'll just take a "regular" one :)). hey- what is the ghost image anyway on that one?

Jerry- that '03 WS photo is incredible.

Hi Jeff, nauseous because you lost out on it, or because you almost dropped $100K+? ;) dinner soon?

teetwoohsix 12-09-2012 10:42 PM

Johnny, I hope one day you get a Wagner T206 (with the ghost ;)) without having to give up your whole collection. You have an extremely hard to build collection with many one of a kind cards.

I think it would be harder to part with than you realize :D Unless it was the ghost Wagner :D.......

Sincerely, Clayton

mrvster 12-10-2012 05:13 AM

Clayton.......

Thanx so much my brother....alot say what you have said.....that ghosty Wagner would do it:D

Chris, this is my 1st attempt to use this site, so please bear with me. I'm just wondering why the missing color Plank is so special for you?

Runscott 12-12-2012 02:40 PM

I change my mind on this from time to time. At the moment it would be an oversized team portrait of the 1909 Detroit Tigers, but it would have to be a super-clear, well-composed amazing image.

Plank is my favourite card and I prefer print oddities, especially the ghostly missing ink examples. There is another Plank scrap with one layer of blue, however it is not a P150 back.

I "think" it will come to auction here soon but definitely out of my range, I enjoy my collection but would definitely do the trade.

The T206 Eddie Collins batting proof is the card I would most like to own, but I don't think I would trade my entire collection for it.

mrvster 12-13-2012 06:54 PM

Sean....

That Collins proof is insane:eek:..........another great choice....

The Plank missing ink is another in my top 3 to own, but that would be another thread.....i'm just like Chris b....:D
