...which do you choose?

I currently have a 1954 Bowman Williams (SGC 30), and am trying to decide whether to slightly upgrade it, or go for a higher-graded example of, say, 1954 Topps #250, which I consider to be a nicer-looking card. For the purposes of this exercise, let's assume the answer can't be "Have them both." Oh, and the Wilson Franks is almost certainly out of my price range.

Would love to hear what you guys think. Thanks in advance for the input!

I have his '39 Playball. It's my type for the set and is a leftover from when I collected HOF rookies....If I wanted his "best looking" card I am not sure what it would be...

I like the 56 Topps

I'm partial to the 1950-51 Bowman cards of Ted. The '54 Bowman has a great story behind it, but the card itself doesn't look like much. I like the '39 Play Ball best, but I won't pay a penny extra for a rookie card, so I'll probably never own it ...

I'm with you Chris; have always loved the 1951 Bowman card. After that one, he vanished for a couple of seasons, which we kids struggled to comprehend as his devotion to military service. The '54 cards were kind of a letdown, in that the Bowman quickly disappeared, and the two Topps issues were rather pedestrian as cards go and seemed like just the great guy's cynical attempt to cash in with the card company. That '51 Bowman was a blazer though.

I think his 51 Bowman is his best looking card for sure. But if I could only have one of his cards it would certainly be his 54 Bowman for obvious reasons. Sorry if that's sort of typical but it's the truth.

I do need his 1954 Topps #250 though. :D

1970 Topps
 

My favorite bar-none is the 1970 Topps Williams. One of my best cards for a long time. Funny how 1969, 1970, and 1971 Topps Williams look like they were filmed on the same day. Also like 51 Bowman. Cheers

Love em all but if I had to have only one I'd take 1954 Wilson Franks. Great pic!!

Setting aside the question of cost, I think the 1956 Topps Ted Willams is one of the top ten cards ever produced.

'48 Leaf. Preferably centered and w/o the print schmack, which takes it out of my affordability range. :D The red background enhances the image beautifully.

Figured I would post images of these two since they were mentioned as favorites. I do like them both a lot, but still choose his 51 Bowman as my favorite.

Does anybody have any thoughts as to why there is a puffy white appearance behind the signature on the '56 card?

gman, it think the white airbrush/retouch was a simple device from keeping it from blending into the background...I actually think that is one of the things I find most attractive about the card.

The Wilson Franks would be my top choice, but that card is pricey, even in low grade. So I'd say it's a toss up between '50 Bowman and '54 Topps #1 or #250 (The '54 Topps #250 has one of the coolest backs found on a card, ever ;) )...

I am a big fan of the 1959 Fleer Ted Williams set. Great photos and not too costly on the budget. The Number 2 with Babe and #70 with Thorpe are my Favorite.

I've always liked both of the 1954 Topps.

Having put together the complete '54 Bowman set as a kid (w/out even knowing the #66 Ted existed at the time), I finally decided to add Ted about 3 yrs ago to really finish off my set.

Needless to say it has become my favorite Williams.

Wow, that Wilson Franks card is simply awesome...

I would vote 54 Topps #1, mostly because I am currently looking for one for my set. Great card.

I like the 1952 Red Man. I am also a fan of the 1956 Topps.

Beautiful cards, guys. My vote is for '56 Topps. :D

I'm going for the '54 Wilson Franks. Any card that has franks on it is ok in my book.
