New article on t206ressources.com
|
Good luck with the Griffith! I don't have one....sorry. :(
|
The other person who has/had one is a member of the board still(and has checked the board within the last month) but he hasn't posted since the board switched over. He was a regular poster at one time. I believe he and I talked about the cards in 2006.
|
Bringing this thread back up because I saw this card just now on ebay, which looks like the beginning of the process for the "error" I have.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/CLARK-GRIFFI...item56634b796d Has anyone seen one of these, either partial like this or more severe like the one in the article above? |
You can find a complete array of these on my site. I am missing some that I have not yet scanned though. Maybe I will do that tonight.
T206 Misspelled Names Kevin |
I have been to your site a few times Kevin, cool stuff and I like the Crigers. I was actually talking about the Griffith only though, sorry I wasn't more specific
|
The MITCHELL, TORONT is not legit. The scumbag in PA in PA that was faking the Nodgrass cards by removing the entire S created all of the MITCHELL, TORONT variations.
The article is missing one of the main ones, Shappe instead of Sharpe Dan |

Since you outed the card Chris, can I assume you got it?
I'd like to get that one on ebay, but I doubt the seller would like my offer :) |
Yep but it's likely heading to a new home :D
|
Its nice to have a card of each type but I only collect the ones that appear to be a misspelling. When there is multiple characters missing or the name issue doesn't make sense then I just pass on it. There are so many that fit into that category. To add to what is already here. I have zero desire to own the Toront card. It's one of those that makes no sense.
There comes a point, when enough is enough. I did just get the Sweeney missing red ink on Ebay, in case anyone saw that one listed. Happy but slightly pissed at the same time about that. I think I could have gotten it a little cheaper. If you were the seller, please don't tell me. Don't wanna know. |
great cards....
can you post my 3 hemphills??:) Chris??:)

Just noticed this Griffith "Cincinnat" go off on ebay:

|
There is a Griffith, Cincinna' on Ebay right now if anyone wants to own one. This is the fourth one I've seen with the I completely missing and a very slight T. I've also seen a couple close to that with a partially missing TI on an angle. This card isn't mine and I don't know if the seller is a member

Here's mine - PSA 2. Crummy scan, but it's missing half the T and the I.

Not an error nor a variation. Just a plate wearing down or chipping as it got used. Just about every T206 has changes over time if you include scratches and the like. Too many people looking for ways to overspend
|
You can call it what you want, I said error because that covers a large variety of things from misspellings to production error, but it's a Hall of Famer with a significant amount of damage to the name plate. You can't find too many cards that left the factory with nearly two full letters missing and the bottom of the A is missing as well.
People have spent thousands on cards with one letter missing or even the Sharpe-Shappe card with a part of a letter missing, so I don't really think spending $175 on a HOF'er with a much more significant issue is overspending. |
Griffith
I owned 2 of these at one point. Sold an un-graded one in fair condition. I still have the other one in a PSA 4. Most that I have seen are Sweet Caporal 350, Factory 30 - other than the American Beauty posted above (which is a sweet card!)

All the sellers other scans except maybe one or two look too bright and maybe have the contrast boosted a bit. The downside is that the colors are much brighter than they probably actually are. On the good side, stains and such pop as much as the colors. Both upper and lower edges do look a bit odd though. Steve B |

Josh if you look at the reverse of the card you can see the upper right portion of the card has been trimmed. Also it appears to me the card has been cleaned and its most evident when looking at the reverse. I could be wrong about that but don't think I am its so white.

Bringing up an old thread because I see another Griffith/missing letters is on Ebay. Not 100% sure, but I believe the seller is a board member
