Just curious- Fantasy card poll - Part 2

So it seems that many folks like the newer (fantasy) Helmar cards but not necessarily the prices they go for. At least that is the way it seemed in the poll and the thread we had. So what is the consensus on this one, or ones like this? For the record I like it too and would even consider buying one (the price is right). And this is nothing against the creator, Charles, of the Helmar cards. The market dictates most prices in our hobby space.

It's a poor likeness of Cobb...and when you think about it, why bother? Does the hobby need this? Is it supposed to be a 1951 Bowman of Cobb? I don't get it.

Barry, About the likeness. That was my first impression. You took the words right out of my keyboard.

I like quality fantasy pieces of which this is not.

gnaz01 11-25-2012 11:42 AM

Don't like it

I agree with Barry and Paul on the likeness not being close. And why would you want a Cobb in the 51 Bowman style? The Helmars are beautiful cards and the series fit the player's time period. This one doesn't appeal to me at all.

Thanks.

Woops, guess I picked the wrong card for the poll.

A very nice one for a little price sounds like more of a winner :).

The Helmars at least have really beautiful artwork. This Cobb doesn't even compare.

I generally do not like cards of players made AFTER their playing days.

There are a few exceptions, the Ruth Leaf, the Ruth 1962 Topps sub-series, etc, but in general, cards like the Cobb here i just dont care for.

I will admit, the Helmars as we have previously discussed are neat but too expensive.

I voted yes on the non-distressed Cobb. I also like the ones Mr. Lemke made/makes and I liked the t213-1 Joe Jackson Mr. Z posted a while back. Would still rather have a vintage card like this gold border Helmar Poe.

gross.

I voted "like it" in the Helmar poll. I voted "do not like it" in this poll for the reason Barry listed above.
