Suh-weeeet Clemente rookie! Finding a '55 Topps Clemente -- not so tough. Finding one that looks like that? Good luck!
|
Superb 55 Clemente. Good job.
|
I have to thank Jimmy of 707 Sportscards, I purchased the card at under a psa 7 and above a psa 6 price. If you are at the Shriners show in Boston stop by and say hello to Jim and Levi they have some great cards, Especially 1952 Topps Mantle's in all grades.

I recently picked up a lot of 24 1969 Deckle Edges and this SP was included. It wasn't mentioned in the listing that it was in the lot so I was very happy to see it when the cards arrived. I'm now down to only 1 card to complete my set.
Thanks, AndyH . |
1969 Deckle
Which one do you still need Andy ? Are you doing the variations as well ?
|

I just need the Staub to finish the 35 card set with the 2 SP's. Are there other variations besides the SP's? Thanks. AndyH |
Deckles
I was just referring to the SPs Andy.
I built my set a long time back. Is the Staub tough to find or is a condition issue ? |
dang man that 55 Clemente is just awesome. Would love to get my hands on one of those one of these days :)

Hey Al The Staub is easy to find. In fact there are several on eBay right now that I could easily pick up to finish off my set. I'm trying to trade for him though just the fun of trading for my last card. I know some other collector will be happy knowing they finished my set with a trade and I don't mind waiting for it. I do have both SPs at this point so that's a plus. I really like this set a lot. Best. AndyH . |
Some extra 68/69 Deckles
|
Al.
What are those? Proofs? It looks like unissued players mixed with existing ones. And I've never seen them with red or black signatures. Very cool AndyH . |
1968 Deckle Proofs
They apparently are early proof sheets for the 1969 issue . They can be found with red, blue or black autos. Some of the sheets have been cut and you can find individual cards on ebay. I think Yaz is the only player on the proof sheets who ended up in the set. The same 9 players appear on all 3 sheets but their location differs a little on some.
There was a recent Mile High auction in which deckled versions of these cards ( red autos) were offered and went for substantial sums. The uncut sheets show up on ebay, but not often ( I got all 3 of mine there). The blue autos seem the toughest |
The last card needed to complete my 56 set. Just love this set!
|
Bill
Beautiful Koufax. And congrats on finishing the set. It's always been one of my favorites. Best AndyH . |
awesome Koufax! I'm actually just getting started on a graded '56 set. Is your entire set graded of just the stars? Have you got it all scanned would love to check it out!
|
Very nice Koufax. Congrats on completing a nice set!

Bill -congrats on both finishing the set and closing with a great card.
Hopefully you didn't "need" it so bad as to give a Brian Rusk to get it |
Thanks a bunch guys. This set is actually the one that brought me back into the hobby after a 20 year hibernation. In the time it took me to build this one in Ex/Mt or better (about 7 years) I finished the entire 70's decade and started 61 topps, 55 Bowman, 64 standups, 71 greatest moments and T206 HOF portoraits. No lack of projects here! :)
Travis, I don't have the entire set graded or scanned but I have attacehd a few that are scanned. Congratulations on starting the set to me personally I think it's second to none as far as beauty is concerned. I found Martin and Reese difficult to find well centered at a reasonable price, somewhat settled on the Martin but it works for me. P.S. Al - I did "NEED" the Koufax oh so badly, but kept it sane!;) Some more scans for Travis. |

I just started working on the 1964 Topps Giants and picked this up to get started.
Thanks, AndyH . |
Those 56's are just awesome congratulations on the pick ups
|
1964
Andy- I have always been a fan of the 1964 Giant set. Great photography. Topps did other big sets, 80, 81,84, 85 and 86 come to mind, but this one was their best in my view

Since I'm just starting getting into this set, I'm not too familiar with the nuances of it. Are there any SP's or variations that I should know about or is it a fairly straightforward checklist? Thanks, AndyH . |
1964 Biggs
Not aware of any variations Andy. Nor have I heard that any particular card is hard to find. I think a warehouse "find" put a lot of these into the market at some point. There is a discussion of that in a prior thread "Topps 1964 Giant Cards" you can find with the search function at top

Thanks for the tip on the previous thread. These things should still be cheap as dirt if there was a find of millions of them! Holy cow. AndyH . |

Thanks, AndyH . |

My favorite card (that I can afford) - And I'm already looking to upgrade it to a slightly nicer Auth or Poor condition.

Mantle
Eugene---that card shows a lot of character and tough love. Bob Costas used to carry a Mantle card with him everywhere he went....in his wallet.

Correct me if I'm wrong but was the Mantle card Costas carried around in his wallet a 1958 Topps AS card? I thought I saw that on an interviews with him on the Ken Burns Baseball documentary.

Costas Mantle
I believe it was a 1958 card,, which one I am not sure

Matt and Henry-beautiful '56 Clementes!! :D I really want one of those for my collection, but I'm looking for my '58 Clemente first. One of my favorite cards ever.
Bill-looooooove the '56 Koufax. :p All your new '56 Topps are really nice, but I'm a big Koufax fan. Adam W-what year and manufacturer is that Warren Spahn from? I don't think I've seen it before. I look at a lot of Milwaukee era Braves, and somehow that's slipped by me. Andy-love those, especially the Kaline. I've always felt that AL was really underrated as a ballplayer. Eugene-that's a great Mantle. Sometimes, the most beautiful cards are the ones that have been well loved. There's history behind them, you know? There's a lot to be said for putting cards on a slab, and sticking them in a vault where they will be safe from the elements. But there's also something to be said for actually looking at, and touching a card. Wondering where it's been. Who has owned it. Jason-Nice Kiner! Pirates have always been my second favorite team, and Kiner one of my favorite players. I'm looking to add a '53 Bowman Kiner to my collection. You guys are going to be bad influences on me, haha. I just added about half a dozen cards to my want list. :D |
