Intro...Doing a Home Bar
I am brand new to this board. The reason I ended up discovering this website is not because I am a collector of memorabilia or a big fan of autographs. I am here because I love baseball history.
We are moving into a brand new house tomorrow and I have gotten the green light from my dear wife to put in a baseball theme bar. I was just wondering if any of you have baseball dedicated rooms or even bars and would like to share any pictures or ideas. Here are some of the things I have planned for the bar: -Theme will be pre 1930. Vintage pictures of the time will be all over the walls. -Old fashioned wide plank hardwood floors and retro brick walls. -Back bar that will actually resemble baseball dugouts of the day (think thick slab of wood across the top). TV would be above the bench while glasses and beer steins (Legends of Baseball collection) would hang from the top of the "roof" of the dugout. -Vintage baseball gear sitting on top of the bench of the back bar. I have already ordered a really cool Shoeless Joe Jackson bat (thick barrel 39 ounces) as well as a replica 1909 Spalding baseball. Just need a mitt, catchers mask, and maybe chest protector now. -Hats of all 16 teams to line the top of the back bar dugout. -Vintage ads and newspapers for the bathroom. What do you think? |
Hello and welcome to the forum...and congrats on your new home. There is an awesome thread about memorabilia rooms that is here if you type: "Anyone Have Memorabilia Room Pictures to Share?" (i'm not good at posting links:o) into the search. You will see a wide array of collections. Most are vintage and don't include much reproduction stuff but still the same concept. I say definately add some vintage stuff into the decor to go along with your other items. Some vintage items can be found cheap and still make for excellent display peices. Just be sure to show some pics once you get it done!

might be kinda cool to have an old tube radio in there for the games instead of a TV.
probably out of the question, but might really enhance the "feel". or have the TV muted, but have the sound be from the radio. just spitballing :) |

Bar complete
|
Several years back, when I had a large collection of sports news photos, a woman who owned a real bar in Green Bay bought all of the Green Bay Packers photos I had, Don Hutson to Bart Starr.
|
Awesome looking bar, looks like a great place to hang out.

I'll second that. That is a great bar!

Very Nice. Looks like a nice cozy sports bar. Top notch!

Great bar/man cave!! Only thing missing is REDSKINS MEMORABILIA!!
Congrats on your new home in the rapidly growing metropolis of Haymarket, VA. Haymarket didn't look anything like it does today when I lived a few miles north (just off Route 15 and Logmill Road), from 1976 - 1997! I can still picture the corn field a local farmer let us use for soccer fields when a soccer league was started in the late 1970s! My, how time flies! Val |
Really sweet! That's awesome, I'm loving that tap with the ball and statue! Nice job.
|
nice
Truly awesome. I can dream one day of having a display set up like that with my items and cold beer ! Congrats !
|
I thought some of you might appreciate this one particular photo in my bar. It is a picture of my great grandfather with the Babe on the golf course in the '27-'28 offseason.

Incredible shot of the Babe and your great grand dad
|
Thats awesome! just awesome
|
Also, here is a better view of the "dugout" and the photo that I told our bar guy to try to match. Would have done a bench the entire length but we needed storage!

Well Done and Cheers:D

I just finished my stairwell project leading down to the bar. It is a tribute to West Side Grounds/Park and the Cubs dynasty.
