'in action' baseball tintype

I didn't win this, and was surprised it went so high. But, very cool and rare posed 'in action' tintype:

From that distance I think the pitcher should be wearing the face mask.:)

Very cool image. Action shots are so rare, as are outdoor pictures.

It's very unusual to find a baseball image of a game in progress, because if the players were moving when the photographer shot his picture, they would be invisible. Posers had to stay very steady for a number of seconds to appear in the image. And of course this is posed, with the players instructed to stand still while they were being photographed. Still a really nice early photo.

The outdoors 'in action' is scarce. Plus it has everyone including fans lined up. I can see how if you specialized in baseball tintypes, you'd have to have that one.

This is my favorite recent tintype (I don't own it, but that is my hand).
circa 1850s cased example of a young man and his loyal dog.

Neat base ball tintype! Uniform and equipment looks like 1880's to me. Tintype's were well past their prime by then.

Is it just me, or does that catcher look like he should be waiting for the next decade to better find his niche playing Naismith's new game of basketball?
