Fake T206 I know of, but...
I am curious. I know that any card can be faked but are there any other Pre-War sets were Fakes run amok? I know there are Goudeys too. Are there any sets that are relatively free of "good fakes"? I have be developing a yen for the T212 Obaks and some of the early American Caramel sets. Are well done fakes an issue wth these sets?

Cracker jacks a lot, sometimes e90's, e95's, d304's here and there, and anything with Babe Ruth. Have seen a few t204 reprints too but they are pretty blatant.

Any one else have any sets to add to the "yes" or the "none known" piles? |
1928 Fro Joy ice cream cards and 1928 Babe Ruth Candy cards are some of the most faked/reprinted cards in the hobby. I guess the #1 card that is reproduced would be the T206 Wagner.

With a limited number of respondants, I am not seeing a HUGE number of tainted sets. Thinking about all of the threads regarding bogus cards on the Bay recently, I can recall a few T206 threads, the Goudey Ruth fiasco, a Cracker Jack fake and that's about it. There have been a few on the Post War side but that's about all I can think of for Pre-War.:)
Pete mentioned E-90's. Does anyone have any insight on that set? Perhaps a scan or a link to a bad one? As I said, it is one of the sets I am thinking about dving into. |
If I were diving into a set I don't think I would base it on how many counterfeits are on the market. Other things such as specific set parameters that you enjoy, cost, type of collecting you want to do etc....would weigh more into my decision. What kind of cards do you like best? The E90-x sets are very popular.
