The latest autograph scam
2 Attachment(s)
This happened to me twice in the last two weeks so I thought I would post it here. The second attempt just happened.
Two totally different people (at least they had different e mail addresses) have sent me scans of high level autographs in PSA tombs, attempting to sell them to me. Checking the tombs out with images.google.com show that the items are owned by different dealers and some are for sale on ebay. The latest offering included Ruth, Gehrig, Cobb, Clemente, a NY Yankee payroll check, Munson, McGraw and Young, checks, GPC's, pics and cuts. Here are two samples: |
Richard,
Are they asking that you send payment for them? If so, are they requesting Paypal gift or another route? I have always been hesitant to ever send a payment as "Paypal Gift" for this exact example. You completely waive your right to protection. Thanks for the heads up. |
The first time they asked for paypal, this time I did not get that far to find out.

As a seller, I only ask for paypal gift when the buyer is international. That way if the item gets lost it's their problem. Terrible way to look at it, but if they get the item- they can still say they never got it and get a full refund because there isn't tracking information usually when sending internationally. Even if you pay the premium price (sometimes $70) to recieve tracking, the carriers won't mark it delivered. |
