Assistance Needed to Identify c.1920s Universal Toy panels
 

I am assisting an ebay seller to identify the following strip cards that were cut from panels. I do not own any of them. I have seen two threads on these panels here: Link and here: Link. I believe that the first player is Ty Cobb, the second is Dave Bancroft, and the third is Walter Johnson. If any of these are incorrect, please let me know. Any assistance for the rest of the cards would be appreciated also. Thanks!

The one with the "P" on the cap must be GCA. The one below WaJo looks like Zach Wheat to me.

The players in the first row are Cobb, Bancroft, Johnson (poor likeness). The second row consists of Grover Cleveland Alexander, Lee Meadows and Zach Wheat. I hate to contradict Adam on the ID of the player with glasses, but the card was probably based on the picture for Meadows E220 card:

I believe the other actor is William Farnum.

One thing that I saw was if the fourth picture for the player with the "P" cap is Grover Cleveland Alexander, the last year that GCA played for the Phillies was 1917. However, Lee Meadows did not start playing for the Phillies until 1919, and Dave Bancroft did not start for the Giants until 1920. Therefore, not sure if this issue can be extended to be called 1917-23 Universal Toy or whether that picture for GCA was used on cards after 1917.

I believe the mis-aligned cap for Alexander can be attributed to the fact that the Universal toy card was probably taken from the e220 photo of Old Pete,which shows him in an old Phillies uniform. If you review this thread:

you'll see a four-on-one Universal Toy card for Alexander that came directly from the E220 action pose, and the head shot here seems to be just a cropped and enlarged version of that same photo. Borrowing from E220, the card creators here apparently just forgot to do their homework and change the cap.

The Meadows card is derived from the E220 photo also, as Brian showed, and depicts him in a uniform not worn by the Phillies until 1921. Bancroft too is shown in a Giants uniform not worn until 1921. So it seems that nothing from the cards in this thread warrants a finding that the set was issued as far back as 1917, IMO.

Yep, Lee Meadows, though he and Specs could have been separated at birth from the looks of them.

Here are pictures of a couple of these cards uncut.

The boxers card gives some help as to when the box of goodies with it was likely issued. The lower left hand image is Luis Angel Firpo [I have definitely ID'd it from an old photo]. Firpo, the Wild Bull of the Pampas, was Argentinean and did not arrive in America until early 1922, and gradually moved into the heavyweight contender picture over the next year and a half, fighting here and in Latin America until he fought and beat Jess Willard in July 1923, then fought and lost to Jack Dempsey in September 1923. I don't think it likely that he would have been picked for an American card set before that since he had never even fought here until early 1922.
