Steals that nobody went after!!

I enjoy the threads of people finding gems at thrift stores and flea markets, but how about this: steals that were right out in the open! Deals that we all had a chance at, but nobody else pulled the trigger.

For example: in a pretty well-known (but not huge) auction house, there was a listing for a group of 11 store model bats. But in the picture was obviously a gamer: this Charlie Neal early 60's LV. I won the whole lot for about $150 including the shipping and juice. I sold off the store models for about $200 on ebay, leaving me with a FREE bat from a fairly popular Brooklyn Dodger/LA WS Champ/Negro Lg player/Original Met.

Anyone else have any to share?

Ken

I can think of three right off the bat, but they were all sold by major auction houses, and at least one was consigned by a board member, so I will avoid creating more misery for them.

At a major auction house years back, I won a stack of 30 identical phantom Cubs World Series tickets. Soon after I put one on eBay and it sold for more than my winning and still had 49 left.

So bought thirty, sold one, and ended up with 49!? Sweet! :)
