R.I.P. Corrie Sanders Godspeed!
R.I.P to my good friend Corrie Sanders, former WBO world heavyweight champ. He was recently at a family celebration and robbers barged in guns blazing- and shot him. He died at the hospital.
He won the championship by knocking out Wladimir Klitschko in Hamburg, Germany. He was gracious enough to do the only private signing that I am aware of (with me) through the mail a few years ago when I couldn't find a Sanders autograph for my collection. I decided to find him and do a deal. The deal which I suggested to help him sell his autograph is that I get one free signed photo for my collection, and in return I will sell the photos and index cards for him and send him all the money from the sales. Was glad to help out a guy who was so gracious to sign for me. He even took a special photo shoot just for the photos he printed off and signed for me to sell. Demand wasn't great, only a few diehard WBO heavyweight champ collectors were interested, but supply was short too as he lived in South Africa, not the United States, and was hard to find. Great guy. I never got to meet him in person, but I wish I could have. As you can see, my avatar is a picture of Corrie Sanders holding his finger up and Klitschko pointing at him in effect saying "He's the man". I had this avatar up for a few weeks now, well before he died, I liked him so much. Watch the Sanders - Wladimir Klitschko fight on youtube for a treat. Watch Sanders destroy the favorite Klitschko and claim his belt. Quick hands, one of the quickest hands in heavyweight boxing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xNoXYgi7o4 He is in God's hands now. Rest in peace buddy. |
Sad to hear it, another tragic event in pugilism which seems to be commonplace in the sport. Vernon Forrest, Alexis Arguello, Arturo Gatti and Trevor Berbick are some of the more recent parities that come to mind.
