1947 Brooklyn Dodgers autographed ball

Would appreciate any opinions on whether or not it contains club or real autos.

-I determined the year to be 1947 through research.

-Has 23 autos altogether including Jackie, Gil, Spider (who signed as John Jorgensen), Branca, Arky- but no Pee Wee.:(

-Belonged to my great grandfather; he got it while the Dodgers were playing at Cubs.

Thanks for any input!

I am sorry to give you my opinion that it has clubhouse sigs, would prefer to see in person to fully evaluate, i hate looking at vintage items not in person to evaluate

From what I recall being told, my great grandfather was some company executive and met the Dodgers in person. The ball and a pen was passed around to the players for him.

Of course I have no way to verify that.:(

Look at the 2 robinsons, sorry not adept at posting images to forums yet
you have an earlier sig of robinson, and a slightly later one.

I must need new contact lenses - oh wait... They look pretty similar to me. I'm going to have an expert look at the ball. If the autos are real, great. If not, oh well, it will be a nice keepsake of my great grandfather.:)

Thanks for your help!!

The Robinson looks good to me.

You might have some clubhouse on there, but you definitely have some good ones from what I can tell. Brooklyn balls are notorious for having at least some clubhouse sigs so don't think it's a bad ball just because their might be a few.

What do you think of the Gil Hodges?

I sent an inquiry and photos of my ball to Heritage Auctions and they want me to consign it. They think it will sell for 2-3 grand.

Should I go for it? The auction is not until May of next year and I was hoping to get something sooner than that.

I'm new at this, can't you tell? Thanks for any and all advice.

I wouldn't trade 2-3 grand for a keepsake from my great grandfather.

When I was 16, I sold one of my 59 Clementes that my dad gave me. I regret it all the time.

I totally respect that but money is a little too tight to mention these days. I don't want to sell it if I can avoid it.

Heritage will tell you what they think to get you to sell with them but can make no promises as to what it will sell for. Even if you let them sell it they are going to take their commission and you get whats left. I don't trust them. my suggestion is to pay for a PSA authentication and sell it on ebay. On ebay you can set a reserve so you don't sell to cheap. If you get the certification you should be able to get $2,000.00 or more and you won't pay that big commission. With ebay you might end up with giving up 10% - 12% depending on how you get paid.
