My God... The bleeding and feathering could not be more obvious. Did this not strike Drew Max as a serious issue?

HOFAUTOS 09-17-2012 09:42 PM

That looks like one of the new autopen autographs that were just posted.

Guys, just to be sure I understand. The Feathering occurs when Fresh ink is put on an old ball?

If that baseball is an example of the "new" auto pen process being discussed on the board than the hobby has NOTHING to worry about.:)
The process of "new" ink being applied to old leather is usually visible under magnification. In fact "new" ink applied to old paper can usually be identified as well. By looking for rate of absorption. Its not that difficult if you know what you are looking for.
Where it gets tricky is with pencil signatures

Yes. It is even more apparent when ink is applied to old paper.

With his enormous "Sherlock Holmes" magnifying glass he should have noticed.

I wonder if our resident ball expert could chime in.... Is the ball even authentic?

JimStinson 09-18-2012 12:52 PM

That ball might be the first known example of a purported Babe Ruth autograph signed with a PAINTBRUSH

I, of course, was being sarcastic.
