Bat question

What reference exists so that I can find out what type(s) of bats a certain player used?

In particular, I'm trying to find Ryne Sandberg game used bats, but obviously don't want to get ripped off :)

Thanks for the info!

The standard book is Vince Malta's guide to LVS bats here:

Thanks! It looks like Sandberg used a Rawlings "Big Stick" or a Worth "Tennessee Thumper". Presumably that guide would not cover either of these brands, correct?

Correct, only LS is in that book. It's worth buying though.

Feel free to post a photo of the bat if you would like. We can try to give some sort of an opinion.

Is this bat legit?

It appears to be, but for almost $500 dollars I'd want one with more use to it. This one looks pretty clean, and the letter is only for the sig.

funny you say that, i felt that it was too cheap, plus it isnt getting any bids.

the guy lists the correct stats for the handle, but his picture of the numbers is blurry.

and yeah, i noticed that the cert was only for the sig. the fact that no one's bidding on it makes me nervous. i'll probably keep looking.

thanks for chiming in.

I don't think Sandberg bats go for $500 unless they're very special. I got mine -- with misspelled name! -- for $225 a few years ago.

I have had numerous Sandberg bats in my collection and since I worked for the Cubs I knew they were real as I got them directly from Sandberg himself or one of the bat boys. They came right from the dugout so authenticity was never a question.

I have had three different versions of a Sandberg with the one pictured on the right being the most common one (at least to me). I have also had the same style bat but it was block lettered as it was from his rookie season. I have also had one of the Rawlings bats that is pictured in the Ebay auction but Sandberg bats always looked more "used" than that one. I cannot remember if he used much pine tar but for some reason I think he did. As for the Ebay auction, I would have passed as there is virtually no use on that bat and I think you could get a gamer with good use for nearly the same price.
