PSA with qualifier vs SGC
Let's say I have an 'EX' 1933 Babe Ruth with a small mark on the back that can't be erased. I want to get the card encapsulated.
Wondering what the consensus is as far as the affect on value for resale: Go with PSA with 'MK' qualifier, or straight SGC and have the card drop to 'Good'? What if it were EX-MT? |
sadly...I believe in such a scenario...you will always do better w/psa w/qualifier!!!!

ex is a no brainer. i would take as low as a psa3mk over an sgc20.

Also, if it were to grade a "5", I believe a PSA graded card with a qualifier knocks it down 2 grades of value. So basically, it would have close to the value of a "3". If it were to grade just a straight out "2", it would only have the value of a "2". When people see higher numbers, they almost always automatically think it's worth more, regardless of the qualifier, therefore spending more money on the card.

Thanks all. I have only sent cards to SGC, but I've never had nice cards with marks, thus the quandary.

Scott,
This is about the only thing I think PSA has done right. The MK qualifier is fine. I think their OC qualifier is a joke because they don't apply it consistently. |
