Random Pic of Ruth Help.
Hey guys I have this pic of Ruth and was wondering what exactly I have here?
Any help would be great I can provide pics of the back or at other angles if needed. Thanks for your time. Its in a cheap target frame that I put it in this year. Im asking what exacly is this and what value it has for insurance.http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k1.../photo-268.jpg I hope this is the proper thread to ask this on. |
?
No idea, but the golfer kinda looks like Lou Gehrig...anyone else see it? And it looks like the Babe is signing that hairy guys' beanie. What a weird photo montage.

And the bottom picture looks like some kind of war memorial, and who is the girl and does the #2 in the girls picture mean something
|
thanks for the coments. I also thought it was Lou in the left with his facial features. Its a cool item and would like to know a little about it.
Thanks again guys. Also the #2 girl has only 1 arm so Im thinking its war era. |
Is it made of paper or cardboard?
Just from looking at it, it looks like a page from a magazine or a book. You know, a "this is what happened this week, month or year" type of thing. Since you don't know what it is or where it is from and there are numbers for each picture then, to me, there is another page which tells what each scene is and who the person pictured is. David |
Its paper like a poster.

I have a 2nd pic that I bought at the same time with dimaggio on it and it does have a lable.

This is on the second pic at the bottom. It is put on the photo like a sticker and not in the print of the photo.

What you have is a photographic poster used to sell newspapers. They would hang them on newsstands to promote the items of the day. There are lots of them with non-sports images and they were popular in the 1920's and 1930's. International News, Elliot News Service, Underwood & Underwood and lots of other companies produced these and they are real photo collages on photo paper and really cool.
The weird photo of Ruth is one I have owned before and he is shown autographing a mans head (but it is really a hat) and I think they even sold the autographed headpiece a few years back. Rhys |
Cool but odd piece. It seems strange that these activities of Babe and Lou (if that's him) in street clothes would be all that newsworthy, unless they were off on some barnstorming tour. As for the war theme--I do not recall any major conflicts being fought during the time Babe and Lou were in the league together.
Maybe this was generated around Armistice Day and is looking back or memorializing events from WW1--perhaps the 10 year anniversary. Just a guess. |
FYI, I found that memorial in the 4th picture:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Division_Memorial It was dedicated on July 18, 1936. |
Cool. Thanks for the info guys! Didnt know it was over 80 years old.
What type of value do these things have? Thanks again |
