Are You A T206 Collector?

What percentage of Net54'ers collect T206 cards? Let's try to keep it binary -- either you do or you don't. There is no gray in this poll.

christopher.herman 09-02-2012 05:49 AM

Yes...Sweet Caporal backs only.
-Chris.

bbcard1 09-02-2012 05:55 AM

Yes. 520 set

CobbSpikedMe 09-02-2012 06:33 AM

Yes, particularly ones with stamps on the back but they don't have to be stamped for me to buy them.

esd10 09-02-2012 06:58 AM

yes just polar bear

Bicem 09-02-2012 07:19 AM

no, too much other great stuff out there.

HRBAKER 09-02-2012 07:21 AM

I have 100+ but haven't bought one in years. So I guess the answer is was but not currently.

t206blogcom 09-02-2012 07:34 AM

Finished 518/518, but have 601 total.

teetwoohsix 09-02-2012 07:35 AM

T206

Yes, they're the only cards I collect :)

Hopefully one day I'll at least get to 518, with possibly most of the backs represented.

Sincerely, Clayton

Same boat here - should have a category of "have some but not an active / aggressive collector of them"

Same here but hoping to get to 522..:D

wolfdogg 09-02-2012 07:51 AM

Have had close to 100 but never pursued the set or never will. Great cards but if I collected the set I would want it all.....Wagner, Plank, Magie, Doyle, etc,etc..to me anything less is a partial set or near set....so it will never happen....still have a a few that I'm keeping for PC

Well, 522 would be great but at the pace I'm going I'll be lucky to hit 400 by the time I'm 70 :D

Sincerely, Clayton

LOL! same here..:) I'm averaging about 1 card a mo. (in SGC 60 or better) I now have 35 and will be 40 in Dec. I've been debating on buying some SGC 50 cards to help speed up the process..

3-2-count 09-02-2012 08:26 AM

Yes. HOF's only though (which includes Hal Chase)

jp1216 09-02-2012 08:36 AM

'Finished' @ 520 - now picking up upgrades from time to time.

Runscott 09-02-2012 08:43 AM

Yes, but I'm slowly going backwards at the moment.

vintagerookies51 09-02-2012 08:55 AM

I have a couple HOFs from the set, but I plan on adding more in the future.

MVSNYC 09-02-2012 09:00 AM

"There is no gray in this poll."

Am i the only one who found this sentence funny? :)

i have been collecting T206 for over 20 years, love the set!

atx840 09-02-2012 09:00 AM

Yes, preferably the oddities & HOFs

No, Mike I thought to myself, "at 53 the no gray rule knocks me out."

Haha - yeah, it should be: "There is no gray ON this poll."

Rob D. 09-02-2012 10:19 AM

Yes. Signed and unsigned.

I'm mostly on this side with T206 but buy some on occasion that I like. Am also gradually working on a Yankee subset for them. I don't see myself ever pursuing the whole set. It's a great set, but too common and widely collected for me. There's just too much else to pass up on!

mrvster 09-02-2012 10:28 AM

t206

Yes....you know what;)

glchen 09-02-2012 10:38 AM

I probably have around a thousand prewar cards and not a single t206. :)

I probably have 200 pre-war photographs, and not a single Lou Gehrig. :)

Runscott 09-02-2012 10:51 AM

I would hate to be missing half of my Johnson

Yes, set, back run, and a few other odds and ends.

At this stage I would take gray, red, black, brown....whatever, but it ain't happening.

As for T206, I said yes, because I have around 30-45....but I only collect oddities, backs and any card I like. ...cause that's just the way I roll.

Not a photo but I thought I saw you still have a 33 Goudey Gehrig that seems to have grown quite attached to you. :)

4815162342 09-02-2012 12:13 PM

I graduated off of the T206 gateway drug late last year. I'm now working (slowly) on the E105 set.

DeanH3 09-02-2012 03:10 PM

Yep...Mainly HOF's concentrating on Cobb, Johnson, Matty, Young, Lajoie and Speaker.

terjung 09-02-2012 03:22 PM

Nope. They don't appeal to me.

Matthew H 09-02-2012 03:33 PM

I'm confused Leon, is your monster number 30 or 45?

bcbgcbrcb 09-02-2012 04:52 PM

Never have, never will.............

willworkforT206 09-02-2012 05:47 PM

Yes, I bought my first five T206s at a flea market when I was eight and have been hooked ever since!

Steve

I accumulated 40-50 when I was about 13 or 14 (back in the early 70's), and they still seem very great to me. I now have about half the set, but I am not trying to complete it.

I confess, in the case of those two '33 Gehrigs, to becoming too enamored with my inventory - I just love that card.

kmac32 09-02-2012 06:13 PM

Don't see the appeal. Like my black and white 20's cards.

MacDice 09-02-2012 06:51 PM

I picked up around 100 low grade cards a couple of years ago when I was really motivate but since my interest level has decreased substantially. Part of me wants to dump them and go after something different (1933 Goudey) but I just can't pull the trigger.

brianp-beme 09-02-2012 10:38 PM

Static Cling

Never has been a main focus, but over the years if you collect all 20th century Pre-WW2 like I do, the things just kind of end up sticking to the collection as if they were statically charged.

I can't imagine why any collector would not have a few, or at least an example in their little cardboard piles...they are about as recognizable and historically relevant an issue we have to collect.

Brian

cdn_collector 09-03-2012 06:15 AM

When I first got into prewar (nearly 10 years ago), I had great ambitions of chasing the monster. I was building a Giants subset while mixing in as many backs as I could. I only made it about 10% into the set when I realized just how many other issues were out there that clearly needed to be collected ;)

In the years since, my collection has evolved regularly. I'll likely never return to trying to complete the monster, mostly because of the big 4, but there will likely always be a 'T206 component' to whatever I'm collecting.

Regards,

Richard.

ullmandds 09-03-2012 05:23 PM

I answered no...because I no longer buy T206's. I still have maybe 10-15 of them in my collection...and I will most likely always have my green cobb.

I bought my first T206 in the early eighties...and T206's are what got me seriously into vintage in the early nineties...back collecting...and while I joke a lot about not liking them...show me one of Tony A's incredible portraits...or a super rare back...or a bizarre freak...and it still get's my juices flowing...how can it not?!

lloydchristmas 09-03-2012 05:32 PM

I will say yes, but have only just recently started.

part of the reason they do not appeal to me is because they are so recognizable, owning a couple at this point would look out of place in my collection.

Howe’s Hunter 09-04-2012 05:38 AM

Yes, but they're not mine.

I had a lot of the same for probably two decades...then BANG! it hit me and I have been hooked ever since. They aren't eating anything and are certainly holding their value...I would recommend hanging on to them. You can sell them anytime, but you can only sell them once.
