When I saw your reference to a $10,000 Jackie check, I knew immediately who would be selling it.
History Direct aka History for Sale is the most absurd priced autograph dealer in the world. I think they must only sell to the drunks and high rollers in Vegas who stumble into their showroom.
But they don't buy anything either.
If you write to them and offer them some quality items they reply with:

Thank you for writing us, but we are not currently acquiring new items nor accepting consigned documents for our auctions/store sales. Several auctioneers advertise in "Autograph" magazine. It is sold in better book stores and some of them may be interested in your piece. If our needs change in the future, we would be happy to contact you should you wish.

Sincerely,

Thats funny ! reminds me of joke about the two guys selling apples on the corner , one guy's sign reads "Apples 25 cents each" and the other guys sign reads "Apples One Million dollars each" , so the 25 cent guy walks across the street and asks him why his apples are so expensive and the guy says "I only have to sell ONE"

This is funny since Autograph Magazine isn't published any more in print form, that I aware.

Reminds me of the joke about the guy sitting on a fence snapping his fingers. Another guy walks up and asks him what he is doing. He says, I am keeping the elephants away. The guy that walked up says, there aren't any elephants within 5000 miles of here. Guy on the fence says "It's working".

Very interesting. Is Todd Axelrod not there anymore? He used to pay more by far then any dealer I've ever sold to. I sold him a ton over the years. He used to have a shop in the Galleria in Dallas as well when I was growing up. Very eclectic individual. I don't think I ever purchased one single thing from him over the years, but I did sell him quite a bit
