Bogus Mantle: Grand Dads Garage Find!

Item #251128235254

Some of my favorite phrases from this listing
Professional Grader: Confirmed at Collectible Store

Don't know much about the card or baseball besides what ive been told and researched about the card online. Also, i forgot to mention that both of the cards are 100% genuine.

I love how he states that he doesn't know much about the card, but he does know its 100% genuine.

Happy collecting!!:D

Two things I've noticed...too many stupid people have too much money, and, once an auction gets above $4,000 or so, seems as if that somehow legitimizes the card and people stop doing their own homework.

GoldenAge50s 08-21-2012 06:57 PM

Not for nuthin'--

---but both the Mantle & the Ted look pretty good to me.

ctownboy 08-21-2012 07:01 PM

A nice condition, ungraded 1952 Topps Mantle with bids pushing the price over $15,000 and this from a seller who has mostly sold Yu-Gi-Oh cards.

Nope, nothing fishy here at all.......

Leon 08-21-2012 07:47 PM

Is the card gone? My link and searches aren't working?

Tuna82 08-21-2012 08:08 PM

Looks like the listing vanished

Bocabirdman 08-21-2012 08:10 PM

Didn't eBay have a rule that 1952 Topps Mantles were one of the cards that had to be graded by a recognized Third Party Grader BEFORE they were allowed to be listed as authentic? That if they were not graded by a recognized TPG then the seller COULD NOT state that the card was authentic?

If so, then WHY did it take eBay soooooo long to remove this listing?

That card doesn't, and wouldn't have been removed, if someone didn't "Report" it. IT had to be "Reported" for it to be removed. That is what I am told by a reliable source. I haven't gone over all of the ebay rules, myself.

Reelnorth 08-23-2012 07:36 AM

I reported that card TWICE to eBay and they left it up. I reported several days ahead of the close. eBay is another nightmare

Ebay has selected certain individuals that get a bit of priority treatment when they report things. Several of our board members have that ability and one of them reported it. Yes, we all can agree that ebay needs more help in the fraud dept. Thanks for what you did and tried to do.....AND MORE importantly, welcome to our little forum. best regards....LL

Yes, there are certain cards that you are supposedly not allowed to sell on Ebay if they haven't been graded by a reputable TPG. That being said there are many listings that don't get removed and end up selling.

FYI, here is the complete list.

(Ebay)
Restricted

You can list the following trading cards only if they've been professionally graded by a reputable grading company:

1909 Eddie Plank error card (T206)

1909 Ty Cobb (T206)

They need to give me that ability with the Sport Kings cards. I have reported fake after fake being sold as real, and the auctions continue to run. I hate to see innocent people get ripped off, but Ebay does nothing to help my due dilligence.
