OT: King Felix Perfect
He just tossed a perfect game against the Rays...
|
Mariners fan since birth, watched the whole game today and it was awesome!

Nothing to do - too hot, so elected to sit in a coffee shop and read a book.
:( |
Do the damn Rays now hold the highest percentage of perfect games thrown against? Sheesh, I think this is the 3rd!
|
Your correct Jim number three jeez
|
Congrats to Felix!
Also the first time a team has been the victim of a perfect game and thrown a perfect game in the same season. |
Perfect games aren't even that rare anymore. Something has changed.
Third one this season (I think) is a new major league record...and as has been pointed out, three in the last few years thrown against Tampa Bay. |
I agree barry, not very rare anymore.
|
What is his real name? I don't think it's King Felix. Is his last name Garcia? I'm confused.

His fellow countryman no less.
He's a total beast, and unfortunately, a shutout is about the only chance he has at a win. Not much by way of run support and his record was rough when he won the Cy Young award a few years back. Congrats |
Thanks Matt...I was mixed up.
|
Can't wait until he puts on the pinstripes in ~2 years.
|
Congrats to Felix for the perfect outing!
|
His post-game presser was refrshing to watch. He credited his catcher the entire time and was acting like a big kid (what baseball players should act like). His wife and child are out of the country as well...seemed pretty humble and just enjoys pitching.

I love that pitching has become king again. I just wonder what Pedro could have done without everyone being on PEDs.
|
Does anyone suspect that this increasing prevalence of perfect games/no hitters is a lingering relic from the steroid years: Players still essentially in the habit of swinging for the fences and merely flying out or striking out? Players are not as well schooled at slapping the ball where the defense ain't, as they were years ago? I also think that we are seeing an upsurge in defensive skills, which of course goes hand-in-hand with improved pitching.

What makes you think he was? He didn't win games because he could throw hard. No spikes in production throughout his career. Guy could just pitch.

Have you seen what Pedro Martinez looked like? I guess Mariano is juicing to bulk up to 165 too. Here's Pedro in 1995, the year he became a superstar.
