52 Topps Pafko - Auction Kings
 

I'm watching auction kings on the Discovery channel and there's a '52 Topps Pafko SGC 20 that the guy wants $500 for. Curious what it brings. You still have 15 mins to tune in to see what it brings.

Went for $650 + juice. I think everyone should send their Pafko's to these guys. Last one sold for $99 on ebay.

The buyer did say "It's rare when this card comes to auction". Pretty sure there are about 30 on ebay.

Isn't Pafko only a condition rarity and not generally rare? I thought it was only worth big money in really high grade.

Not rare but popular/in demand in any condition...There are alot of d-bags on that show

They had cards on an earlier episode. 1953 Paige, 64 Aaron, 56 Mantle. About vg-ex condition from what I could see. Also had a yount rookie, 76 Aaron... About 30 cards total. I thought the lot would go for about 700-$800. I think it went for $3000 no joke. I guess people should start bringing their cards to studio 63 in Atlanta.

Auction houses are something overlooked. I closed my account on that greedy online auction site with no customer service and send anything important to a couple local auction houses. People will pay more when they can touch and see something in person. As well you get people with lots of cash that bid simply because they can.

Last sale I went to, an older lady bought a Dave Keon hockey stick simply because she had the money to bid higher than me and another bidder. She bought it and handed it to her son-in law sitting behind her.

It caught my eye that a number of the attendee's to Auction Kings (Gallery 63) auctions are quite regular, as they appear in many of the episodes. The one I caught last week had the owner Paul, encouraging a regular to continue bidding on a 1937s Hudson Terraplane automobile and noted that the bidder had previously paid $6000 for a Babe Ruth autograph. I missed that episode, but this bidder did win the car for $5000 or so. To be honest, it was a beautiful car that supposedly drove nicely. And as I am having a bout of mid-life crisis, I would have loved to have won that car for $5000. But my boss (aka Mrs.) would have none of that though. That's OK. Still acceptable to dream.

I wish I had a place like gallery 63 by me...I'd have a lot more shit I probably don't need than I already do!!!!!!!

I DO have a weekly auction place near me...and they routinely have 50's-60's bb and fb cards...a lot of times with minor/major stars. I work late mondays so I can't attend regularly...which is probably a good thing too!!!!!

It's cool to see the neat things they come up with...and agreed...it's a very different demographic...I think a lot more impulse purchases than well thought out ones!

The price on the pafko def seemed ridiculous! But then again...the cy young ball that sold on a previous episode was probably a bargain!!!!!

And that amazing art nouveau fountain/bronze that lady got last week that turned out to be worth like 35K...that piece was amazing!!!!!

Don't believe everything you see on these shows just ask Dan McKee, remember they are TV shows looking for ratings. I can't believe that none of you have seen him in the Pawn Stars for Sports Collecting show.

I tend to believe that this show is alot more dealer then pawn stars, etc. because it is a auction house, you can go on their site and see items and bid months before they show up on the site. Maybe they get higher prices because they are on tv and people want to just buy something while there.

I saw an episode of Auction Kings where a man brought in about 9 large plastic tubs with lids and about another 6 boxes claiming that these all contained approximately 150,000 baseball cards. A close up of the lot showed that all were modern common cards but the seller stated that there were some buried in that those boxes that went back as for as the 1960's, but no card that old was ever shown.

They brought in a so-called "expert" to appraise it and they found a 1987 Topps set with a Barry Bonds rookie in a top loader. They flashed a $50 value across the screen for that Bonds card alone and that in itself made me realize this show is a total joke.

The lot ended up selling for $700 as I recall, which was probably about $650 too much since those plastic tubs with lids did have some resale value to them.

I looked up the reviews about them and their not too great.

I think the reviews are about the lack of eye candy on the show. I laughed when someone last month wrote that she's hard on the eyes.

I was checking the Gallery 63 website, and I viewed their consignment form. They take a 35% commission. Yikes!!
