80s-90s commons
 

I'm sure people have thousands of these sitting around just taking up space. I'm looking to get rid of mine, but can't stand to throw them out. What do you guys do with them? I've tried selling them for pennies (2 for a penny) with no luck. Just looking to see what you guys think. And if anyone wants to take them off my hands for that price, they're all yours.

I used to sell batches of commons on ebay , about 400 cards for usually 9.99. That started not working, so I've mostly kept them. The lesser condition ones I've used as packing material. But including a note is a must as I had one buyer get mad that he got a boxful of worn 88 Donruss instead of 50 nice 70's cards. At least till I explained that the nice ones were in their own pack surrounded by the Donruss that were sent loose as filler.

Or sell them at the club I was a member of which brought usually a couple dollars for a shoebox full.

And after getting rid of a few thousand those ways someone sent a batch of a few hundred british cards in a priority box with a whole bunch of 1990 Score including what I think was a complete set in a binder.

BST here works pretty well as long as the price is reasonable.

So what stuff do you have for 2 for a penny? I shouldn't be buying, but I find it hard to resist a big boxful of cards.

Maybe team lots? Someone else on the B/S/T recently tried it. I'm not sure how it worked out for them.

I like the idea of team lots. Never thought of that. Thanks for the input.

As far as the cards that I have, I'd say nothing out of the ordinary. Late 80s Topps thru mid 90s everything (Topps, Donruss, Upper Deck, etc). Right now I have them in storage since they take up too much room. If you'd like to work something out, let me know what you're thinking and we'll try to make it happen.

I find that the biggest turn off is the shipping cost. But unless the buyer is local, there's not a whole lot that can be done about that.

When I buy collections I go through the boxes and pull out the stars and inserts. I blow out the commons at card shows. I can usually get $7 for a 3000 count box or $10 for a 5000 card box.

Some of the dealers will make some nice trades in exchange for boxes of commons. There is one dealer at the Madison, WI shows who will take all of the commons that I can bring with me and I trade them for vintage non-sports cards that I can put on ebay.

I'd love to help but at the moment I don't have any. I am looking at a couple of collections this week so you never know.

yeah, there are usually dealers at shows that will buy them for $1-2 per 1000 cards.

That might be me who he's thinking of. I was selling lots by the team of roughly 250-300 cards (including some stars) for around $15 per team, and have sold about 10 of them (a few here, more on eBay). Most people were happy, although a couple of people were unhappy getting some duplicates.
