Best looking black/white card or issue?
Not much love for black and white cards on the best looking thread, so what do you think the best b/w card or set is?
My vote... Novelty Cutlery http://photos.imageevent.com/bicem/hof/m%20brown.jpeg |
Gotta be the Zees!
http://i1023.photobucket.com/albums/...1920/IMG-4.jpg Though I do like these an awful lot (if I could find any!!!!) http://i1023.photobucket.com/albums/...mann_White.jpg |
T4 Obak. The T4 Weaver in my opinion was the prettiest thing ever produced.
edited to add, not mine unfortunately. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a95...kkweaver-2.jpg |
b/w
I'm with Matt W---M101-1 SN.
I have it as the James McGuire framed with a large oval mat. It serves as a centerpiece for the wall nearest my office desk. all the best, barry |
E107s, have a thing for portraits. Would love to own one.
Excited to get my first M101-1 http://i.imgur.com/HUbBz.jpg |
My personal favorite is the '39 play balls. Bigger cards, outstanding image clarity...and it's just my own personal opinion, but I think that set might have saved the hobby. Goudey was dying, every other issue was basically gone, paper was getting expensive and in short supply. The 39 and 40 sets were really the only Major distributions until peace time really settled in in '48. If it weren't for the Gum Inc sets of '39-41 who knows what might have happened to the hobby after a full decade of basic non existence

Probably a bit less mainstream, but how about some Negro Leaguers? If you like black and white or sepia, the 1920's Cuban issues are pretty hard to beat IMO.

W503

W503...they are so crisp. Even in this lousy scan (the horizontal lines are only on the scan) of a beater card you can see some pretty intimate details of Casey's ear, if you are into that type of thing. And the action shots are fantastic.

Great cards in here wow.

Forgot about the Cubans. Some of my favorites as well.
http://i1023.photobucket.com/albums/...lintThomas.jpg I agree these black & white issues are pretty stunning. |
Jason, wow very nice card.
|
Thanks, John. Amazing the clarity they were able to get on some of these.

Don't think anyone mentioned 1937 O-Pee-Chee yet...love those too! |
John's Delahanty might be the most beautiful old judge on the planet.
Another beauty would be the Kalamazoo Bats card of Harry Wright. I don't have one, hopefully someone here has one to post :) |
Four Base Hits Kelly!

Love them all but have an extra fondness for the Connie Mack. Love that card.

Black & White issue
I'm a big fan for portraits.
E107's, W600, and Just So get my vote. Tony |
The D381s are pretty remarkable. Does anyone know who the photographer was on these? Everyone of them has a great image, shows all the life of the person on their face. Great images.

The cards are from apparently circa 1923 and may actually be from a poster given the thickness of the paper stock. Frank K. Ward has labeled them as the "Shoulderless" set. |
Love em
