Who are the 5 toughest t206 southern leaguers?

I don't think this subject has been discussed for a while.....who do you think they are primarily in mid to high grade?

tedzan 06-15-2012 04:22 PM

In any grade....my top tough 5 are

Foster

Shaughnessy

Coles

Paige

Revelle

The Shag card is awesome; I've been after it since I started my monster quest. His portrait resembles a villainesque character from a cartoon series of some sort. Really grabs your attention more than most other cards in the set.

Where does Manion rank? I picked that one up the other day.

Revelle doesn't show up as that rare at all in PSA pop report--for what it's worth.

McCauley and Violet were the last SL cards I needed. Not the toughest to find but finding them in the grade I wanted (psa 3-4, sgc 40-50) for the price I wanted to pay took a long time.

my thought is if you can find them on ebay they are not that rare maybe tough but not rare in low grades

I'm no expert (but it did stay at a .....)
Paige and Ryan were my last two. I picked up Shag and Foster early on. Sid Smith was near the end also - just because it looks too much like Ritter.

T206 SLer's

I don't think any of the T206 SLer's would be considered rare. Perhaps some of the Hindu SLer's might be in that range depending on your definition of rare. There are a handful of Sler's that are tougher to find for sure, but I would say they are probably barely scarce at best, with Piedmont/OM backs.

I don't equate tough and rare. This is a tough thread, not a rare thread.

The last five that I acquired were

Sid Smith (actually Syd)
Woodie Thornton
Frank Shaughnessy
Carlos Smith
George Paige

Interestingly the first one I acquired was Helm, who in my opinion is seen much less frequently than some of the others. Therefore order of acquisition may well be totally meaningless.;)

My Top 5 (in no particular order):

Ed Foster
Perry Lipe
J. Ross Helm
Gordon Hickman
Roy Ellam

It's tough to limit it to just 5. I don't think Shaughnessy is that tough, but he is very expensive, well sought after and you will need to pay for him, but he is available.

tedzan 06-16-2012 08:50 AM

Frank Shaughnessy

Shaughnessy is tougher than most T206 Southern Leaguer's simply because of "supply vs demand". Besides T206 collectors,
Frank has a following with Canadian collectors.

Frank is in the Canadian BB and FB Hall of Fames and the McGill Univ. Sports HOF.
