1941 Scorecard from Dimaggio's 56th Hit
Lelands has an AMAZING scorecard from Joe Dimaggio's 56th hit. I've been looking all over the internet for another one that has been auctioned off or sold and haven't found anything. Scorecards from the next night when the streak was broken have gone for $1,500-$2,500.
With that said, does anyone know what the value of this would be? And what do you expect it to go for? The auction ends tonight. http://www.lelands.com/Auction/Aucti...-56th-Hit-Game |
Although it's a fair question, I don't think the people who plan on bidding want to share that information at this time.
|
Yeah, that thing is beautiful. I don't expect it to stay near the current price.
|
Yeahh thats the thing. At it's current price I'd love it but I expect it to go well over $1,000. Wish it wouldn't.
|
I know when an item I really want hits the auction block, I try to post about it on the day it's ending in order to draw more attention to it. That seems to work well in keeping the price down.
Best of luck tonight. |
When you put it like that it probably wasn't a great idea but I figured most of you had already seen it. I just wanted to know if it was in my price range and it doesn't look like it will be. I guess we,ll all see tonight.
|
Rob, if I'm reading you between the lines correctly, it sounds like you think what I know a lot of others thought when they saw the original post -- that there is actually another reason for pointing out this auction today.

When someone asks me what I think an active auction item will go for, I say "Ask me when the auction is finished."
|
I understand you guys not wanting to post because its still going on . If you want to private message me instead of posting on here that would be cool. Thanks

gejoe2012,
Curiously wondering...Let me know if I am addressing the big pink elephant in the room...."You are the owner of the scorecard trying to drum up interest in the item" if that isn't the case, then why are you so anxious to find out what others feel the item will sell for or what they would pay for it... |
It is okay to own the item and try to drum up interest in it. Any of us would do the same. They are merely pointing out the charade that you are playing to do so if you are in fact the owner.
|
When you consign a lot to an auction house, it is the auction's responsibility to drum up interest, and not the consignor's. That's how the auction house earns its commission, by doing that work. I'm not saying whether or not the OP owns this scorecard, but if he did coming on here as he did would be inappropriate. Hopefully he was sincere when he asked the question of its value.
|
Well your close. I'll be honest I don't own the scorecard but I know who does. He was worried it wasn't going to go for what he expected and I told him if it didn't go for X dollar amount I would be bidding on it myself. So while I would love for it to stay low so I could get it myself, you were correct that I wasn't 100% trying to get a steal. If I didn't know the guy who consigned it (who also has a few others at the auction that I won't mention) I was sincere in wondering what it would go for. I did expect that most of you had seen it though, wasn't trying to drum up the biding.
|
I know we welcome newbies here but sometimes when I see someone making their first post it does seem to be a suspicious one and I suspect a hidden motive.

Well if you want proof I'm not trying to drum up bidding check the game used universe boards. I asked about it a month ago and they told me to ask the Net54 forum. But I see where you are coming from and if you are planning on bidding on it I'm sorry for brining attention. I probably should have just waited it out.
|
No problem gejoe I am more trying to help you than criticize you.
|
Gejoe- As was pointed out this was your first post, and it won't ingratiate you with the net54 gang. Not a big deal, but not a great introduction.
|
The consignor is concerned about the final price, so his buddy is going to bid on it. Nice.
|
No, person I know concerned about price, I wanted to get some information about whether it would go for a lot or whether I could get a good deal.
Honestly I get where you guys are coming from but I don't think pointing out a nice item at auction is such a bad thing. I guess it's an unwritten rule though. I'll be sure to keep items to myself for now on until after they are sold... Once again though, if anyone has any idea and is willing to share private message me. |
If Leland's cannot make him happy than no one probably could.

You guys obviously didn't read what I said. It's whatever though.
Scorecard went for $1,035.67 Thoughts? |
The whole issue of debate is a minor issue in my opinion. If the worst he did was give a plug to an item he or his friend consigned, it's not that big of a deal.
Though I agree that if (I said if-- no accusation coming from me) it belongs to to the original poster, he should have just said so. Made up stories don't sit well when it's deduced they're made up. |
Read all of my posts. I never made anything up? I was simply asking for information.
It seems I spoke too soon, auction isn't over. Lelands 10 minute rule in effect. |
I see the scorecard it up to $2,442

No I didn't bid. It passed my maximum price before I got the chance.
Looks like it's still going though. $2,686. I won't comment anymore until it's over. |
At 1:20 am PCT the Scorecard is at $3,250

That scorecard would have looked nice in my collection next to this one from the first game of the streak, but it was well beyond any budget that the lovely wife would have approved.
