Finishing my 1933 Delong PSA 1 set!

Down to just the BIG ONE:

7 - Lou Gehrig

The following came back from PSA HIGHER(!) than I had wanted, so I am looking to downgrade these to PSA 1's:

3 - Oscar Melillo (came back PSA 1(MC) - not higher, but still...)
4 - Bill Terry (came back PSA 2)
20 - Joe Vosmik (came back PSA 1.5)
22 - Chuck Klein (came back PSA 2)

I am doing the set in PSA 1 condition, and I will only buy a graded PSA 1 Gehrig. Really looking to complete this set, so if you have one for sale, or see one out there, please PM me or respond here.

Thanks!

Just thought I would throw the line out there to see if anyone has any of the three!

Just have a signed Gehrig, I see that DeLong are significantly more valuable than the '33 Goudey's. do you have any clue as to why?

Well, there are a few factors that go in to why Delong is more popular than the Goudeys...

First, in my opinion, and what seems to be a relative general consensus, the cards just look a whole heck of a lot nicer. The vibrant colors, especially on high grade copies (PSA 6 and higher), really pop.

Scarcity is definitely another reason. Compared to the Delongs, Goudeys are downright plentiful. And if you look at the Pop Report, they can be had in much nicer condition, and much easier than the Delongs. There are over 4,000 Goudeys grading out at 8Q or higher, compared to less than 200 (!) Delongs, most already stashed away. Zero PSA 10's in Delong, too.

Player selection, especially as it relates to set size, is definitely another factor. Chop a zero off the end of Goudey's 240 card set size, and you have a set of Delongs that is both collectible and difficult, a rare balance, at 24 cards. Stock those 24 with 15 HOFers, including the most beautiful and toughest of two inner circle HOFers, Gehrig and Foxx, and that pretty much wraps it up for the Delongs vs. Goudeys debate.

Just one person's opinion... I am sure there are TONS of collectors who prefer Goudeys over Delongs just the same.

Anyone out there with these three?

jrlebert 08-19-2012 10:21 AM

Very excited. Just picked up a Warneke... down to just two:

Lefty O'Doul
Lou Gehrig

Anyone?

jrlebert 08-25-2012 01:56 PM

Figured I would check in again. Looking for the last two.

jrlebert 10-10-2012 09:02 PM

Anybody tonight?

jrlebert 10-21-2012 12:31 PM

Another check in. Anyone?

jrlebert 11-22-2012 09:18 PM

Happy Thanksgiving all... anyone have any Delong's tonight?

Updated the OP. Who has Gehrig?

jrlebert 02-12-2013 10:05 PM

Just checking to see if anyone has any of the ones I am looking for in PSA 1, or if anyone needs the ones I have.

Help!

Trying again!

Back up for another shot!

smrtn240 02-27-2013 11:34 AM

just curious as to why you are only wanting PSA 1 ?

jrlebert 02-27-2013 10:46 PM

On my budget, it's all I can really afford. I don't make a whole ton of money, but I absolutely love vintage cards.

I am pretty picky about the low grade ones I want, and as such, I take a bit of time finding cards that fit my profile.

I am pretty far in to the set at PSA 1, and while I am just technically one card (Gehrig) away from the complete set, I would like to upgrade the Vosmik and downgrade the other 3 to have a uniform PSA 1 set.

Back up we go! Anyone have any of the 5? I had another seller back out of a Gehrig sale. Yuck.
