does paper loss always psa1/sgc10
does paper loss always get you a grade of a psa 1 or sgc 10? the reason i ask i saw on ebay a e92 looks to have been glued to a book and its in a sgc 20 holder
|
i had a T-206 that graded a PSA 3 with paper loss on the front of the card

Here's a PSA 5 Cobb Green Portrait that I am VERY tired of seeing on ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1909-T206-TY...#ht_500wt_1413 As you can see, there is a spot of paper loss in the top right corner. |

I regularly see/bid on psa 2s that have very nice fronts and a few spots of paper loss on the back |
Yea....that green cobb psa 5 first came on ebay when king kong was a monkey......
|
I have an E121-80 Hornsby that is darn near mint in every way, with the exception of a dime sized paper loss on the reverse. As far as I'm concerned that "poor" is one of the nicest cards in my collection
|
I actually have a t206 frank chance psa 5 that looks like an 8, but on the back there is a tiny spot of paper loss. It actually has to be seen under magnification....in this situation, i think psa got the grade right but if it were in an 8 holder, not many people would even second glance it.....

If the mark on this card, which appears to be paperloss, is actually paperloss, then yes, they do grade above 1.
It also appears badly miscut cards also grade well on the PSA scale. I intentionally blocked out the serial number. Not my card. |
HA
When King Kong was a monkey ! AAHAHA LOL
never heard that before ! Ral G |
If they are dirty, they get a 4.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1909-E92-Cro...item1c0a975085 this is what i'm talking about this looks to be a dime size chunk missing from where it was glued to something. I have seen nicer cards that get lower grades than this with no paper loss.

This SGC 30 (which I currently have up on eBay) has a small area of paper loss on the back in addition to areas of stain.

thats a nice e97 with a small amount of paper loss but i use to remember if you had any paper loss it was a sgc 10 or psa 1
|
Here is an SGC 30 with paper loss on the back. Two questions: 1) Do they care less if on the back? 2) Since it got the SGC 30, and the front is very nice, would the paper loss hurt value or would it be considered a solid SGC 30?

have the grader's become less strict with the grades they give?

It is all detailed if you read through their Grading Scale http://www.sgccard.com/grading_scale.htm |
Still, I have to ask, do people treat an SGC 30, with minor paper loss, as a true 30--or do they discount because of it?
|
Interesting regarding the tear, figured it was an automatic 1. I really don't mind them if the rest of the card is clean.

heavy crease + paper loss = PSA5

It's always fun to dig into my PSA misgrade file.

SGC are always accurate and fair in my opinion. Personally, I collect ungraded cards and grade them to oldschool, Charelton standards. PSA seems to have made it's own rules when it comes to grading. For example, a card that is miscut or off-center can receive a NM-MT grade as long as "MC" of "OC" is written on the slab. Denoting MC or OC on the slab doesn't make the card better. Makes the slab more appealing but not the card. |

This one has been given to me as an example that I'm not offering enough

Someone has a card I want, and I've made an offer. They show this one, listed as a BIN for quite some time, as a card with paper loss worth a lot more than I am offering. I keep pointing out no one is buying, but that point hasn't sunk in yet. |
Totally agree with chad. Give me a t206 psa 8oc versus a psa 6 with corner wear any day of the week...... unless of course it's trimmed, right dan?

This one has a tiny amount of paper loss, but PSA doesn't hold you accountable as much as SGC. If SGC graded this, it would be a 2.

I tend to agree that PSA is more lenient when it comes to paper loss than SGC as I have seen more PSA 2 or 2.5 with paper loss but usually with SGC it gets a 20. Also 30 is the most I usually see SGC grade a card even with a very small spot of paper loss. Example below was in a PSA 2.
As a side note I do not mind writing, stamps or paper loss . |

Pete- agree 100%. I have an almost identical E98 Coombs and it is in an SGC 20 holder. tbob |
