Jackie Robinson autograph in My Own Story
I must admit the more I look at autographs, the more I get confused. Here's a signature in Robinson's 1948 bio My Own Story. Thoughts? To me, it doesn't look like the ones from on-line images, but I don't have a clue.

IMO. there isnt a prayer that is a real Jackie.

Looks like one of those autographs where dad came home with the book "signed" and told the family that he met Jackie and got it "signed."
No way is it good. It does not even resemble Rachel's ghost signed autograph. |

Max,
I have a similar book that I bought at an estate sale several years ago. Has a very similar signature. I always wondered if it was authentic or not. Did you find any more information about your book. Below a photo of the signature in the book that I have. I did find another copy of the book for sale that also has this type of more formal signature. http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/Book...on%26sgnd%3Don Does anyone know anything more about this book or signature? Thanks in advance for your help. -Matthew http://i782.photobucket.com/albums/y...ps750589e4.jpg |
Thanks Matthew. I haven't found out anything more about the signature in the book.
Given that there are now three copies of this style, it may be there was another signer for Jackie back around when the book was issued. The aging of the signature in my copy certainly appears consistent to the late 40s or so. Likely impossible to determine who the actual person was who signed, if it's not Rachel's ghost signature (and I don't know what that looks like, although comments above state it isn't). Perhaps another done by a clubhouse boy or team employee. Max |

Your link to the Robinson book on ABE shows that it's no longer available. Did you keep a copy of the signature? [deleted other pics] |
