1916 H801-8 Globe Backs
Greetings fellow collectors. I was wondering if anyone collects the 1916 H801-8
cards with the Globe backs? How scarce are these backs in comparison with the common Sporting News backs? Also, do these Globe backs command a premium? Look forward to some replies. Thank You |
Yes, they are harder to find. I would put them at the same level as either the Herpolsheimer or Indianapolis Brewing. Not very rare, but also not as easy to find as the Sporting News.

Wow, as hard to find as Herpolsheimers and Indianapolis Brewing? I assumed Globe were a bit more plentiful.

Seat of my pants guess and I agree. All 3 are pretty close but I would go scarce to scarcer of Globe, Herpolsheimers, Indianapolis Brewing.....I don't have any data except watching them in the hobby, as to why I think that. As for premium value on Globe backs.., maybe if it is a star or HOF'er and/or is needed for a subset. Overall, I would put an average 25% premium on commons and varied amounts on others. That percentage could vary greatly though if a Cobb - Globe or Johnson- Globe etc... came up and 2 player collectors had to have the same card. That is an auctioneers dream. |

Throw Weil Baking into that group and I believe you have the 5th through 8th easiest backs--Herps, Globe, Weil and Indy.

A quick, unscientific check of the SGC pop report shows Herpos the most common of the three (287) followed by Globe (139) and Indy Brewing (96).

Doesn't surprise me I could be off by a back or two in scarcity levels as there are over 20 different backs and some are rather close in scarcity. They have also changed some positions over time. I do enjoy them and remember when there were only a few of us who even cared about the backs, or at least there were only a few collecting them. I still need some Everybody's type variations but I think that is about it. http://luckeycards.com/pm101backsmaster2.jpg |
