Legendary Lot 1050 -- Dietsche PC set

Based on the description for this set it would seem to suggest that the cards are dated to the first year of the run (1907) due to the existence of writing on the front:

"While the Dietsche issue was sold over the period 1907 through 1909, we believe that all of these date to their initial (1907) appearance; last names appear on the fronts of all." In fact, the writing is just that -- someone writing on the card after the cards were created, having nothing to do with the dating.

I didn't get that impression from the writeup...or I guess it just seemed obvious to me that the writing was placed by it's owner?!

calvindog 05-31-2012 08:29 AM

It should be -- but it doesn't mention that the writing is 'handwritten' and the mention of it is directly after the dating of the cards. Strange writeup for an inconsequential lot.

ullmandds 05-31-2012 08:49 AM

Inconsequential? I beg to differ!!! There are some on this board who feel the "rare" dietsche cobb fielding postcard is a potential 100K card...with the writing...atleast 20-30K...in no time at all!

On a more serious note...this card is underrated...probably undervalued by many...and is very desirable. I want one!!!!!

The PC's are 1907. The writing is post-production and seriously diminishes the value.

calvindog 05-31-2012 10:24 AM

Here's what a 1908 looks like -- with the writing that is actually part of the card. Anything else was handwritten:

Jeff,

Does that price include shipping? If so, the check is in the mail.

ok, 12000 but not a penny more....and I still don't know anything about them!!

ullmandds 05-31-2012 02:21 PM

Huh...id have thought 12k for that card was a retty strong price...aside from that anomalous auction result?!

insidethewrapper 05-31-2012 02:40 PM

I asked Legendary and was told the writing has been placed on these cards . They were not printed like that. Doesn't writing on a card make them a grade 1 at best. They are all 1907 copyright.

Clavindog : Has a copyright 1909 Cobb ever been found ?

insidethewrapper 05-31-2012 02:47 PM

Here's the PSA population report on the Cobb's : 27 Batting and 6 fielding.

Yeah, I suspect some bidders had been fooled by the vague item description.

And no, I understand that most of the 1909 Dietsche cards were Cubs and the few Tigers which were made do not include Cobb.

Thanks

Bicem 05-31-2012 07:57 PM

but it's really nice writing. solid penmanship.

ullmandds 05-31-2012 07:59 PM

agreed...super nice penmanship...it doesn't really bother me that much!!!!

ullmandds 06-02-2012 09:24 AM

In case anyone was wondering...I've taken these deceptive, inconsequential postcards off the market...and once in my hands...I will destroy them so that no one in the future will ever perceive the writing on the front as factory printed...and mistake these 1907 postcards for the rarer 1908-1909 versions...and I will post a video of said destruction on youtube...

calvindog 06-02-2012 10:00 AM

You're a giver, I'll tell you that.

ullmandds 06-02-2012 10:10 AM

funny...i get that a lot!
