For this thread we can include post-war players wuch as Willie Mays. etc.

Ted Williams
 

Ted Williams, shown here in an old holder, is one of the most notables (and there are many others too)...

Not only did he serve his country, ultimately he gave his life for it.

And although I don't have any of his cards, and he is far from prewar, Pat Tillman deserves a mention in this thread, as he was a true American hero.

Spahn saw action in the Battle of the Bulge and at the Ludendorff Bridge as a combat engineer, and was awarded a battlefield commission and a purple heart.

Killed during WWI.

Ted was influential in my career as a Marine aviator and my squadron had a case dedicated in his honor. He was as good an aviator as a ballplayer and that's obviously saying a lot. Many others served in the military but Ted fought as a Marine and was the real deal. Semper Fi

Not Pre-War made, but Pre-War players.

Eddie Grant as everyone knows died in WWI and Bill Niemeyer was a Cubs prospect who lived right down the street from where I live now in Kentucky. He died in Germany in March of '45. Billy O'Hara was a Canadian aviator and infantry office in WWI. He lived but was traumatized by what he saw in France.

Every Veteran's and Memorial Day I try to feature a relevant ballplayer. It's my little way of saying thank you. It makes me realize how darn fortunate I am.
