Buck Weaver Postcard

http://www.legendaryauctions.com/Lot...of-Buck-Weaver

I actually owned this at one time, but had to sell it as I grew to hate it in that the picture looks absolutely nothing like Buck Weaver.

Any ideas who it really is?

Shoeless Moe 05-15-2012 09:26 PM

and if u want to get it cheaper (most likely) then in the Legendary auction, one is up on Ebay right now.

It's from the same seller I bought mine from a year ago, which makes me nervous about the one in the Legendary auction and this Ebay. These are supposedly fairly hard to find, but 2 from the same seller, one year apart.

Very strange.

I'm not saying, but anyone hear of fake postcards being made, I know we see it with cards and autographs all the time, now postcards possibly? I hope not, but it is odd same seller 2 of these, 1 year apart.

not to me

I haven't heard of any reprints or fakes of these but there is no doubt that anything we see on the internet can be reproduced. Maybe Fritsch made some as their company put out many reprint sets?
In my experiences it is not uncommon to see more of something come out from the same source. Even if whatever it is is very scarce. That set is like many other sets which are very scarce but their monetary value doesn't get too too high because of the limited audience. These PC's should do ok though....

Looks like Cicotte.

I poked around on the internet and found a picture of Buck Weaver smiling in a similar pose (furthest right). Looks kind of like him in that photo.

Shoeless Moe 05-16-2012 12:59 PM

I still don't see it.

I agree that it might actually be Cicotte. That was my 1st thought but didn't want to influence anyone.

I bet it is him and they goofed.

IMO it's Eddie Cicotte... I think the jaw line and fuller face says a lot. I think Weaver also has a longer chin that doesn't look present on the PC.

My 2 cents.

I'm with gashousegang

looks to me like the farthest right photo of Buck was the source for the artist's drawing, with him taking liberties on shading and wrinkles and with a slight head tilt

Shoeless Moe 05-16-2012 10:14 PM

Yah quite possibly it was Weaver and the guy just couldn't draw very good.

D. Bergin 05-16-2012 10:30 PM

Looks like the Weaver photo to me. Definitely not Cicotte.

tbob 05-16-2012 10:44 PM

First time I saw that postcard I thought to myself that it was definitely not Buck Weaver, in fact, it looked like Eddie Cicotte.
